Description

Students at cemetery, unknown date. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a group of young people standing in a rough circle in a cemetery. Also present are an older man in a long coat and an older woman in a long skirt. Image 7 shows a tree in the far distance at the top center of the image. The two older people are to the left of the tree and all must one of the young people are to the right of the tree, Image 8 shows a similar scene to that of image 7, but the photographer has moved to their left. In this image, there is a power pole at the top center of the image. Image 9 shows a similar scene to that of the previous two images, but the photographer is high up relative to the people in the image. A young man in a denim jacket and jeans is at the left side of the image. Image 10 shows the group of people from behind. There is a brick wall on the right half of the frame in the background. Image 11 shows a closer view of the young people. Near the center of the frame is a young man in jeans and a button-up shirt. His hands are in his jean pockets. Image 12 is similar to image 11, but the older man is facing away from the camera at the right side of the frame. Image 13 shows the older man looking toward his left and gesturing with his left hand. To young women are listening to the older man. Ken Balsley speculated that these images may show a meeting of the "Death with Dignity" class, which at one time was offered by one of the local high schools. Printed in alternation along one edge of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
