Description

Wigwam, unknown date. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a strip mall with several stores and other services occupying space within it. Image 21 shows an existing storefront with a large overhanging roof being built over the walkway in front of the store. Visible in the window of this storefront is a sign which reads "COMING SOON LACEY IGA OPEN SOON." Image 22 shows a different portion of the strip mall with several storefronts in the image frame. The furthest from the camera is a store called "Wigwam," then moving closer to the camera is a Goodwill store, one store with an unreadable sign, one space with a sign which reads in part "Library," and one storefront with a sign which reads "LUDLOW FOUNDATION" and "BINGO." Image 23 shows the Wigwam storefront. Image 24 shows a portion of the front of the Grapevine Restaurant and Lounge. Image 25 shows a second portion of the front of the Grapevine, which is connected to the Wigwam. Wigwam is a chain of discount stores founded in Seattle, Washington. Their first store opened in 1946. The Ludlow Foundation was an organization founded to provide small grants to needy individuals and non-profit organizations that were not already funded by larger foundations and charities. It was founded in 1976 by Lud Kramer and his family. Lud Kramer was a Washington politician who served on the Seattle City Council and as Washington Secretary of State. He was a moderate Republican who fought against racial discrimination in housing and for higher standards in housing for migrant workers. Printed at intervals along one edge of this film negative strip is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
