Unidentified monks, unknown dates. These five black and white oversized negatives were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images carry no physical numbers, so numbers will be assigned in the order in which they are described. These images show three portraits of a monk two non-portrait pictures of the same monk. Image 1 shows two identical portraits of the same monk side by side. These two portraits are on the same piece of photographic paper or other substrate, and this substrate is pinned to a piece of wood. Based on the appearance of the wood, these images appear to be quite small, and may be contact prints. The man in the two identical portraits is wearing glasses and a monk's habit. He is tilting his head slightly to his left. Image 2 shows an identical image of the monk, but the photo appears to be larger and is matted. The image of the monk is also reversed in relation to image 1. The mat reads "A Superior Photo" on the bottom right corner. There is a book standing upright at the left extremity of the image, and the visible portion of the spine reads "...TREAT INSTRUCTIONS of Mother Mary [last name is unreadable]." Image 3 again shows the same monk, but his face is turned slightly more to his right than in the other images. He is also wearing a different habit of rough-looking material. Image 4 shows the monk standing at the bottom of a set of stairs. The monk is leaning up against or is very near a brick wall along the edge of the stairs. His hands are behind his back and he is looking toward the camera. Image 5 shows the monk crouching down and holding a very small girl in a dress. The girl is holding a doll. The picture appears to have been taken in a backyard, and there is wooden children's chair at the bottom right corner of the image frame.
Printed along one edge of image 1 is "KODAK--SAFETY" and the number 42.Made/Created
