Description

Joe Illing, unknown dates. These four film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a man (Joe Illing) posing for photos in various outfits, and sometimes smoking a pipe. Image 10 shows Mr. Illing wearing a plaid suit and smiling. He is looking toward the right side of the image, and the photo is set up as a portrait format. Image 11 is very similar to image 10, but Mr. Illing is not smiling. Image 12 is similar to the previous two photos, but he is looking toward the camera and smiling. His body is still oriented toward the right side of the image. Image 13 is nearly identical to image 12. Image 14 shows Mr. Illing seated in a chair and smiling at the camera. His left hand is resting on his knee, and his right arm is resting on the arm of the chair. He is holding a tobacco pipe in his right hand. Image 15 is simiilar to image 14, but here Mr. Illing is holding the pipe up towward his face and not smiling. Image 16 is similar to image 15, but Mr. Illing is smiling. Image 17 is similar to image 16, but Mr. Illing has oriented his body more toward the camera, and is directly facing the camera. The pipe is in his mouth and he is smiling. Image 18 is very similar to image 14, obut here Mr. Illing is looking toward the right side of the image. Image 19 shows Mr. Illing in a trench coat. He is smiling, and the image was captured from Mr. Illing's chest level looking up toward his face. The image is in portrait format. Image 20 again shows Mr. Illing in a trench coat. He is directly facing the camera and has the pipe in his mouth. He is not smiling. Image 21 shows Mr Illing in the trench coat and wearing a fedora. He is smiling and has the pipe in his mouth. This image was captured from Mr. Illing's chest level. Image 22 is very similar to image 21, but Mr. Illing is not smiling and the pipe is not in his mouth. Image 23 is similar to the previous two images, but his face and torso are oriented more toward the camera. The pipe is in his mouth and he has a slight smile on his face. Image 24 is very similar to image 23, but Mr. Illing has oriented his face and body toward the right side of the image. Image 25 is nearly identical to image 24. Image 41 shows Mr. Illing posing for a photo in a suit and tie. He is smiling, and his hands appear to be clasped in front of him, although his hands are outside of the image frame. His face and body are oriented slightly toward the left side of the image. He is looking at the camera. Image 42 is very similar to image 41, but Mr. Illing's face is oriented almost directly toward the camera. Image 43 is very similar to image 41, but here Mr. Illing is not smiling. Image 44 is very similar to image 43, but Mr. Illing's face is oriented more toward the camera. Image 1 is similar to image 44, but Mr. Illing is smiling. Printed at intervals along one edge of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
