Description

Unidentified people. unknown dates. These eighteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. Many different rolls of film were used in the creation of the images, so many of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated several times over. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter, and this letter will be attached to the physical number of each of the images in that group (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.). The images in group "a" show three children in costumes and one woman wearing an elaboraate necklace. Image 38a shows three girls in costume. One is dressed as a dog with a tutu, one is dressed as a princess with a long, gauzy skirt and one is a rabbit with a tutu. Images 39a and 40a are nearly identical to images 39a.Image 41a shows a young girl in bunny ears and a tutu posing for a picture. Image 42a is nearly identical to image 41a. Image 43a shows a a young girl in a tiara and long, gauzy skirt. Image 44a is nearly identical to image 43a. Image 1a shows a child in what appears to be a dog costume with a tutu. This is image shows the child from the waist up. Image 2a is very similar to the previous image, but the child is shown from the mid-thigh up. Image 3a shows a woman with short curly hair and an elaborate necklace smiling and posing for the photo. The images in group "b" show a man with slicked-back hair speaking to a small group of young people, and two men and one woman in individual photos. Image 14b shows a man with slicked-back hair wearing a jakcet with his arms crossed speaking. To his right is a young woman listening to him speak. Image 15b shows the man with slicked-back hair speaking. Between him and the camera isa small group of young people who are facing away from the camera. Image 16b shows a man in a tie in a portrait format photo. The man is speaking in this image. Image 17b shows the same man, but his mouth is closed. His body is oriented slightly toward the right. Image 18b is very similar to 17b, but his head is turned more toward the left side of the image. Image 19b shows the same man facing toward the left side of the image and laughing. Image 2b shows an older woman seated at a desk. She appears to have a newspaper in front of her on the desk. The woman is looking down and writing something with a pen. Image 21b shows the same woman, but she is looking forward and not writing. Image 22b shows a man with glasses, a plaid shirt and a tie standing with his left hand on a shelf. This image shows him from just below the belt up. Image 23b is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has zoomed in slightly. Here the man is visible from the waist up. Image 24b is again similar, but the photographer has again zoomed in. Here the man is visible from the mid-torso up. Image 25b shows the same man standing next to a desk with a pen and a circular object in his hand. The images in group "c" show a section of carpet, two young men posing in individual portrait-format images, and three young women in choir outfits in a group photo with a man in a suit. Image 40c shows a section of a carpet. One leg of a stool and a portion of a person's shoe are also visible. Image 41c shows a young man wearing a plaid collared shirt posing for a photo. Image 42c is nearly identical to image 41c. Image 43c shows a young man in glasses wearing a paisley collared shirt under a knit vest. He is looking toward the camera. Image 44c is very similar to image 43c, but the young man is looking slightly more toward the right. Image 1c shows three young women in choir robes, one of which has a chest emblem of a bird shaped like a "T" (presumably for the Tumwater T-Birds). Two of the young women are seated, one is standing. There is also a man with glasses in a suit in the group photo. Images 2c-5c are virtually identical to image 1c. Image 6c shows a man in glasses and a Thurston County Sheriff's Department uniform. His nametag reads "JOHN TURNER" and his badge states that he is a deputy sheriff. He is wearing his uniform hat, smiling and looking at the camera. Image 7c is similar to image 6c, but the man is not wearing his hat. Image 8c is similar to image 7c, but here the man is turned toward the left side of the image frame. Image 9c shows a woman with short hair smiling and posing for a photo. She is wearing a high-collared shirt with a small, round button or pin on it. Her body is oriented toward the right-hand side of the image. Image 10c is virtually identical to image 9c. Image 11c shows a man in glasses and a plaid shirt holding a trophy. Image 12c is virtually identical to image 11c. Image 13c shows a young woman with long hair posing for a photo. The upper part of her shirt has a design with balloons and lambs on it. Image 14c is virtually identical to image 13c. Image 15c shows a woman with bangs and a shirt with a very wide collar posing for a photo. The images in group "d" show a young boy displaying a large fish he has caught, and a man in a hard hat displaying a much smaller fish. Image 26d shows the boy holding the fish out to his right side. He is holding a fishing rod in his left hand and wearing a Washington State University sweatshirt. Behind him is a station wagn with someone sitting in the driver's seat. Image 27d shows a similar scene to the previous image, but the boy is holding the fish out in front of him. Image 28d is similar to image 27d, but the photographer has zoomed out or moved backward slightly. Image 29d shows a similar scene to the previous images, but here the boy has turned his body toward his left. Image 30d shows the boy sitting on the back bumper of a station wagon with its hatch open. He is still holding his fish. Sitting next to the boy is a man in a hardhat holding a much smaller fish. The image is oriented horizontally. Image 31d is very similar to image 30d, but here the image is oriented vertically. The images in group "e" show several young people socializing and recreating outside of a school. Image 30e shows a young person in mid flip. This is taking place in a grassy area outside of a school. Image 31e shows an object laying in the grass. It is not clear what the object is. Image 32e shows a young man and a young woman seated on concrete eating a snack. The young man is looking forward. Image 33e is very similar to image 32e, but the young man is looking downward. Image 34e shows five young women standing in a grassy area outside of a school. One of the young women is helping one of the others stretch her hamstrings. The young woman having her hamstring stretched is holding onto a flagpole or light pole. The images in group "f" show a police officer directing traffic at what appears to be the intersection of Sleater Kinney and Pacific Avenue in Lacey, Washington, and two older people riding bicycles. Image 8f shows the police officer directing traffic. The officer is facing the camera. Image 9f is very similar to 8f, but here the officer is facing away from the camera. Image 10f shows an elderly man and woman riding bicycles. Behind them in the image is a house with a sedan parked in front. Image 11f is very similar to the previous image, but the two people have ridden closer to the camera. Image 12f shows the two people riding toward the camera on a road next to a long, single-story building on the right. Image 13f is very similar to image 12f, but the two people have ridden closer to the camera. Image 14f shows the two people riding on the same road as in the previous two images, but here they are even closer to the camera. Image 15f shows the two people standing with their bikes next to them and posing for a photo. There is a small dumpster in the background. Image 16f is virtually identical to image 15f. The images in group "g" show nine young men posing for photos. Image 22g shows four of the young men posing for the photo. Two of them are kneeling in front, and two are standing behind. Image 23g shows five young men, different from the four in the previou image, posing for a phtoto. Three are kneeling in front, and two are standing behind. Image 24g is very similar to image 23g, but here the young man kneeling at center is holding a basketball. Image 25g is nearly identical to image 24g. Image 26g is very similar to the previous two images, but here the image is oriented vertically where the previous two are horizontal. The images in group "h" show two young people taking turns riding a small motorcycle in a field. Image 8h shows one of the young people riding the motorcycle toward the right side of the image. Image 9h shows a different young person riding the motorcycle toward the left side of the image. Image 10h shows the young person from image 8h riding the motorcycle toward the right side of the image. Image 11h shows thhe same young person riding the motorcycle toward the left side of the image. Image 12h shows the same rider riding the motorcycle roughly in the direction of the camera. The images in group "i" show four women and one man performing a dance routine. Image 4i shows the four women kicking their right feet out slightly. The man is in a pose of exaggerated fainting. Image 5i shows the man in the same pose, and the women appear to be trying to emulate it. Image 6i shows the four women doing the fainting pose and the man walking toward the camera. Image 7i shows only the four women doing the pose. Image 8i shows several people in 1930s-style costumes listening to a man talk. The images in group "j" show one man in glasses and one man in a suit posing for photos. The man in a suit may be Bob Blume. Image 1j shows the two men poisng for a photo. The man in the suit is smiling. Image 2j is very similar to the previous images, but the man in the suit is not smiling. Image 3j is nearly identical to image 2j. Image 4j is almost identical to image 1j. The images in group "k" show a man in glasses reading a racing form. Image 42k shows the man sitting at a desk. Image 43k shows a similar scene, but here the man is standing. Imag 44k is nearly identical to image 43k. The images in group "l" show a man in a plaid sweater seated at a desk and smiling at the camera. Images 16l and 17l are nearly identical. Printed at intervals along one edge of the strips in group "f" is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063." Printed in alternation along one edge of all of the other strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
