Description

Real estate, unknown dates. These fourteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using at least five different film rolls, so many of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they appear to have originally come from, and each group will be assigned a lower-case letter. These lower-case letters will be combined with the physical numbers of each image (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a real estate office and five different homes. Image 9a shows a commerial building with a sign on it which reads "Gold Star Realty." There is a parked car at the left-hand side of the image, but most of the back end of the car is outside of the image frame. Image 10a is very similar to image 9a, but more of the back end of the car is visible. Image 25a shows a single-storey home with a for sale sign in the front yard. The street number on the house is 1009. The real estate sign is for Evergreen Olympic Realty. The side view mirror of a car is visible at the bottom of the frame, showing that the image was captured from inside a car. Images 26a and 27a are virtually identical to image 25a. Image 31a shows a different single-storey home for sale. The street number for the home is 326, and the real estate sign is for Boone & Boone Real Estate. Image 32a is very similar to image 31a, but the camera is angled upward more, making more of the sky and less of the road visible. Image 33a is similar to image 32a, but the camera is again angled up more, making more of the sky and less of the road visible. Image 34a shows a different single-storey home with a for sale sign in the front yard. The real estate sign is for Evergreen Olympic Realty, and the sign is nearly perpendicular to the image plane, making it difficult to read. There is the front end of a car visible at the right-hand edge of the image. Image 35a is very similar to the previous image, but less of the car is visible. Image 36a is similar to the two previous images, but no part of the car is visible. Image 37a shows a rambler style home with a for sale sign to the right of the front door. The real estate sign is for Lacey Realty. There is a splatter pattern of something on the road in front of the house, and a "SPEED LIMIT 25" sign at the left-hand edge of the image. Images 38a and 39a are nearly identical to image 37a. Image 41a shows a two-storey home with a for sale sign in the front yard. The real estate sign is for Olympia Real Estate, Inc. There are two mailboxes visible near the left edge of the image, and a small light post near the right-hand edge. Image 42a shows the same home as in image 41a, but the photographer has moved 30-40 feet to their right. There is a basketball hoop visible near the left-hand edge of the image. Image 43a is nearly identical to image 42a. The images in group "b" show four different homes and one man painting a picture on an easel. Image 11b shows a rambler style home with a basketball hoop above the garage door and a baby stroller parked to the left of the front door. There is a real estate sign in the front yard, but it is too small to read. There are three mailboxes at the right-hand edge of the image, and the number on the mailbox closest to the house is 7540. Image 12b is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned to the right slightly, making a fourth mailbox visible at the right-hand side of the image. Image 13b shows a different rambler-style home with stone flanking the front door to both sides and a boat parked at the right-hand end of the house. The street number for the house is 6304. Image 17b shows a man painting a picture on an easel. He is holding a paintbrush and painting palette and looking toward the camera. Image 18b shows a home which is almost identical in design to that shown in image 13b. However, this home does not have stone flanking the front door and its street number is 8832. Image 27b shows a two-storey house with the street number 2420 and a Volswagen Beetle parked in the driveway. Image 28b is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned toward the right slightly. Image 29b is virtually identical to imge 28b. Image 37b shows a two-storey home with two dormers on the front side. The right-hand dormer has two windows in the front and the left-hand dormer holds a covered porch. There is an antenna on top of the house. Image 38b is similar to the previous image, but there is a leafless tree in the foreground of the image. Image 39b is very similar to image 37b, but the photographer has moved toward their left. The images in group "c" show four different houses. Image 36c shows a two-storey house with an American flag standing in the yard to the left of the home. There is a covered carport on the right-hand side of the house, and the street number shown on the house is 517. Image 37c shows a single-storey house which is mostly obscured by trees and bushes. Near the right-hand edge of this image is a street sign showing the intersection of Carlyon Avenue and Boundary Street in Olympia, Washington. Image 38c shows a two-storey home with one garage door at the left-hand end of the first storey and a second garage door in a single-storey portion of the house toward the right. Both garage doors have four equally-sized square windows in them. Image 39c shows a single-storey house with an Olympia Real Estate, Inc. sign hanging on the house's left-hand end. There are two cars parked in the driveway, one of which is a police car. Image 40c is nearly identical to image 39c. The images in group "d" show three different houses. Image 28d shows a single-storey manufactured home with a gravel driveway. Visible behind the house is a second building similar to the manufactured home. This may be an outbuilding or a second house. Image 29d shows the same house as the previous image, but there is a pickup truck parked in the driveway in front of the house. Image 30d is very similar to image 29d, but the photographer has panned toward the left slightly. Image 40d shows a rambler style home with a two-car garage at the right-hand side. There is a basketball hoop which says "NBA" on the backboard at the right-hand side of the image. The street number on the house is 6006. Image 41d shows a two-storey home with a two-car garage at the left-hand side. One of the garage doors is open, and there is a pickup truck with wooden walls surrounding the bed parked in the driveway. Printed at intervals along one edge of all of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
