Description

Businesses, unknown dates. These eleven black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using five different film rolls, so some of the images' physical numbers are repeated one or more times. For the purposes of this description, these film strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with their physical numbers (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show storefronts for several stores in an enclosed shopping center, likely South Sound Center. Image 33a shows a storefront for The Rusty Rivet. This image was captured from to the left of the storefront. Image 34a also shows the Rusty Rivet storefront, but this image was captured from the right of the storefront. Image 35a shows a storefront for Elysium Boutique. This image was captured from straight on to the front of the store. Image 36a also shows the Elysium Boutique storefront, but the photographer has moved to their right and several feet closer to the storefront. Image 37a again shows the Elysium Boutique storefront, but this image is oriented horizontally where the previous two images are oriented vertically. Image 38a shows a Fashion Conspiracy storefront. This image was captured from to the left of the storefront. Image 39a shows the Fashion Conspiracy storefront, but this time the image was captured from to the right of the store. Image 40a shows a Bernie's Bottoms storefront. Two people are walking in front of the store, from the right side of the image toward the left. Image 41a is very similar to image 40a, but the two people walking in the image are moving from left to right. Image 42a again shows the Bernie's Bottoms storefront, but there is only one person walking in front of the store, and they are wearing a hooded sweatshirt. Image 43a is very similar to image 42a, but the person walking in front of the store is wearing a coat or jacket. Image 44a shows the entrance to a Mr. K's restaurant. There is a man standing in the entrance facing away from the camera. Image 1a also shows the Mr. K's restaurant, but the person walking in front of the entrance is holding a skateboard. Image 2a shows the entrance to a Fun & Games arcade. There is one person walking into the arcade. Image 3a again shows the entrance to the arcade, but there are two people leaving. The images in group "b" show exterior shots of a Seattle Trust bank and a People's depatment store. They also show shots of the entrances of an Agbar Yugoslavian Restaurant, The Wax Butterfly, and The Athlete's Foot, all of which appear to be in South Sound Center. Image 30b shows a Seattle Trust bank location. A large section of the parking lot is also visible in the image. Image 31b again shows the Seattle Trust bank, but the photographer has moved closer to the building. There is a Volswagen Beetle parked at the center of the image, and a man in a plaid jacket walking past the Beetle. Image 32b is similar to image 31b, but the photographer has moved away from the building and there is a man in a military uniform walking past the Beetle. Image 33b shows the exterior of the People's department store in South Sound Center. The image was taken from the left of the "People's" sign on the side of the building. There is a man in a baseball cap crossing the parking lot toward the store. Image 34b is very similar to image 33b, but the man in the cap is walking on the sidewalk adjacent to the store and there is a car driving past the building with a license plate which reads SDB-593. Image 35b shows the exterior of the People's department store, but from the right of the People's sign. There is a Volkswagen Beetle driving past the front of the store. Image 36b is very similar to image 35b, but there are two cars parked in the image foreground. Image 37b shows the front of an Agbar Yugoslavian Restaurant. This image was captured from to the right of the entrance. Image 38b is similar to image 37b, but this image was captured from to the left of the restaurant entrance. Image 39b shows a storefront for The Wax Butterfly. This image was captured to the right of the entrance. Image 40b is similar to image 39b, but this image was captured to the left of the entrance. Image 41b shows the storefront of The Athlete's Foot. This image was captured to the right of the entrance. Image 42b is similar to image 41b, but it was captured to the left of the storefront. The images in group "c" show exterior shots of the Lacey Auto Center, Mark-It Foods, and three individual buildings under construction. Image 14c shows a partial exterior shot of the Lacey Auto Center. The right-hand end of the buidling is outside of the image frame. Image 15c shows the entirety of the Lacey Auto Center building. Image 16c is very similar to image 15c, but a larger portion of the tree in the top left corner of the image is visible. Image 17c shows an exterior shot of Mark-It Foods. Image 18c is very similar to image 17c, but the photographer has zoomed out or moved further away from the building. Image 19c shows an exterior shot of a building under construction. Two men are walking on top of the building. Image 20c shows a different building under construction. At the left side of the image is a crane suspending a large pipe in the air. Image 21c shows another building under construction. Two men in hardhats are crouched down and working on the building. The images in group "d" show exterior shots of a Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlor, a McDonald's restaurant, a Big Tom's restaurant, a McDonald's sign, and a concrete block building under construction. Image 2d shows an exterior shot of a Baskin-Robbins ice cream parlor. There is a open-topped coupe parked alongside the building on the left-hand side. Image 3d is similar to image 2d, but the photographer has moved to their right. The open-topped coupe is only partially visible in this image. Image 4d shows an exterior shot of a McDonald's restaurant under construction. There is a pallet in the foreground with a large stack of boxes which read "ESCORIAL." Image 5d shows the same McDonald's under construction, but the photographer has moved to their left. There is a man in overalls and a cap at the left side of the image. Image 6d shows an exterior shot of a Big Tom's restaurant. Image 7d shows a McDonald's sign. There is a billboard in the background advertising a free carwash. Image 8d shows a concrete block building under construction. The walls have only been constructed to a height of approximately 3.' This image was captured approximately 40' from the structure. Image 9d shows the same building under construction, but here the photographer is very near to the building. The images in group "e" show exterior shots of a Pay'n Save store. This image was captured from the right of the store's entrance. There is a car with license plate number JCT 162 driving past the front of the store. Image 31e is very similar to image 30e, but there are two station wagons passing in front of the store. Image 32e shows the Pay n' Save storefront, but now to the left of the entrance. There is a pickup truck passing in front of the store. Image 33e is similar to image 32e, but there is a car with license plate number 0716-H passing in front of the store. Printed at intervals along one edge of all the strips in groups a, b, and e is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063." Printed in alternation along one edge of ll the strips in groups c and d is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
