Football, unknown dates. These fifteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using seven different film rolls, so many of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated one or more times. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the images' physical numbers (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a North Thurston High School football practice. Image 1a shows two players laying face-down on the ground while a third player is falling on them. A coach in striped shorts is watching from the right-hand side of the image, and a coach wearing soes with stripes on them watches from the left. Image 2a shows one player jumping onto the ball, which is on the ground. Two other players are on their hands and knees near the player jumping on the ball, and the coach in stripes shorts is watching from the right-hand side of the image. Image 3a shows one player tackling another player. A coach wearing sunglasses is watching from the right-hand side of the image. Image 4a shows one player holding a ball to his chest with both arms while running toward the camera. A second player is at the left edge of the image and appears to be falling backward. There is a ball on the ground in front of him. Image 5a shows a pplayer bear crawling over a series of tackling dummies. Six other players watch from the background. Image 6a shows a similar scene to that of the previous image, but the photographer has moved several feet to their right. A large number of players are visible in the far background. Image 7a shows one player crouched down slightly and trying to push another player. A coach wearing glasses or sunglasses watched from the right-hand edge of the image. Six players are visible watching in the background. Image 8a shows one player crouched down and pushing against a second player. No other people are visible in the image frame. Image 9a shows one player crouched down and pushing against the other player. A coach with sunglasses is approching on the left-hand side of the image. A third player is partially inside the image frame on the left-hand side. Image 10a is similar to the previous image, but the third player is not visible in the image frame. Image 11a shows ten players, grouped into twos practicing tackling. Image 12a shows one player practicing or demonstrating tackling. A coach is at the right-hand side of the image facing away from the camera. Image 13a shows one player practicing tackling on a second player. The ball is visible laying on the ground between the two players. Image 14a shows one player crouched down slightly and two other players standing in line behind him. There are three tackling dummies visible behind them on the ground. Image 15a shows five players down on their hands and knees while a sixth player crouches down slightly to push on the shoulders of the middle player down on hands and knees. Image 16a shows a similar scene to that of the previous image, but the photographer has moved several feet to their left. The player on the far end of the line is standing up. Image 17a shows one player who appears to be avoiding a tackle by a second player. Both players are next to four tackling dummies laying on the ground. There is a coach partially visible at the right-hand edge of the image and facing away from the camera. Image 18a shows a man seated in a chair with his left hand to his chin and facing the camera. The front end of a van is visible in the background, and on the front it appears to read "DODGE." This image is blurry. The images in group "b" show a Timberline High School football practice. Image 3b shows at least three players pushing a football sled. There are approximately 12 players watching from the background, and one coach is a hat is facing away from the camera at the right-hand side of the image. Image 4b shows four players pushing the football sled. The coach in the hat is at the left-hand side of the image facing away from the camera. Image 5b shows two players pushing the football sled. This image is more close-up to the players than the two previous images. Image 6b shows three or four players pushing the football sled. This image was captured from the left-hand end of the sled, so the players are visible from the side. Image 7b shows one player running with the ball while a second player tries to stop him using a blocking dummy. Three players watch from the background, and one coach is at the right-hand side of the image facing away from the camera. Image 8b shows one player handing the ball off to another player. Two players are standing behind them, and there is a person who appears to be a coach wearing a helmet and holding a blocking dummy at the left-hand side of the image. Image 9b shows one player holding the ball with both hands while a second player comes out of a stance behind him. Two other players are visible standing behind this second person. Image 10b shows a player with the number 47 on the back of his helmet falling backward. There is a tackling dummy in the left-hand hald of the image which reads "ATLAS SUPER DUMMY." Image 11b shows an offense preparing to run a play against a defense holding pads. This image was captured from to the right of the offense. Image 12b shows a similar scene to that of the previous image, but the image was captured from behind the defense. Image 13b shows one player in a two-point stance and holding the ball with both hands. Two players in three-point stances are flanking him. Two players at the right-hand side of the image are in two-point stances, and three players are standing and watching. The images in group "c" show a high school football game between the Timberline Blazers and an unknown team. Image 6c shows several players from each team down on the ground. Player 55 for the unknown team is the player furthest toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 7c shows player 30 for the unknown team running to ball. Player 40 for Timberline is the player furthest toward the right-hand side of the image. Image 8c shows a Timberline player having just caughta pass. Only the bottom half of his jersey number is visible, but it appears to be 88. Image 9c shows number 30 for the unknown team running the ball. Two Timberline players, one with a jersey number starting with 7 and a second with jersey number 13, are chasing him. Image 10c shows player 31 for the unknown team running the ball. A referee is in the foreground on the right-hand side of the image facing away from the camera. Image 11c shows player 40 for the unknown team running the ball. A Timberline player with a jersey number that appears to be 87 is the furthest player toward the right-hand side of the image. Image 12c shows a Timberline player leaping toward a player for the unknown team with a jersey number which appears to be 40. The ball may have just dropped out of the player for the unknown team's hand. The image is blurry. Image 13c shows two players jumping up for a pass. All of the other players on the field are to the right of the two jumping players, and one referee is to the left of the jumping players. Image 14c shows a player from the unknown team trying to tackle a Timberline player with a jersey number that appears to be 11. Player 82 for the unknown team is on the ground, and a referee is running in the left-hand side of the image. Image 15c shows a play being run, but the image is very blurry. Player 35 for the unknown team is visible near the right-hand edge of the image. Image 16c shows player 11 for the unknown team running toward a Timberline player who appears to have just received a pass. Image 17c shows a player for the unknown team crouching down and reaching for the ball which is bouncing on the ground. It is not clear if he has just fumbled or if the ball is bouncing toward him. Player 61 for Timberline is on the left side of the image running toward the camera. Image 18c shows a play being run, but it is too blurry to make out more than that. Image 19c shows player 11 for the unknown team running the ball. A referee is in the foreground just to the right of center. He is facing away from the camera. Image 21c shows approximately eighteen cheerleaders in a chorus line and doing a high kick. Image 22c again shows the cheerleaders, but they have both hands up in the air and are raising their right knees. Image 23c shows a player for the unknown team running the ball. Timberline's players 10 and 43 are at the right-hand side of the image. Image 24c shows a Timberline player being tackled. Player 84 for the unknown team is the player furthest toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 25c shows many players from both teams standing in a jumble near the center of the image. A referee is partially visible at the right-hand edge of the image. Image 26c shows a player for the unknown team with a jersey number ending in 5 having just caught a pass. A Timberline player with a jersey number ending in 4 is trying to tackle him. Image 27c shows a player for the unknown team running the ball. Player 25 for Timberline is the player furthest toward the right-hand side of the image. Image 28c shows a player for the unknown team preparing to receive a pass. The ball is in the air approximately four feet from the receiver. Player 15 for Timberline is the player furthest toward the rigt-hand side of the image. Image 29c shows the end of a play being run. Many players are on the ground. Timberline's players 61, 44 and 40 are still standing and facing away from the camera. The images in group "d" show a high school football game between the North Thurston Rams and an unknown team with wing designs on their helmets. Image 18d shows a North Thurston player with a jersey number which appears to be 43 carrying the ball and soon to be tackled. Player 25 for the unknown team is reaching out to grab the ball carrier from behind. Image 19d shows a player for North Thurston with a jersey number which appears to be 11 being tackled by player 86 for the unknown team. A referee is facing away from the camera in the bottom right corner of the image. Image 20d shows a player for the unknown team with a jersey number ending in 0 running the ball. A referee is in the foreground in the left-hand half of the image facing away from the camera. Image 21d shows a player for the unknown team being tackled by two North Thurston players. Player 60 for North Thurston appears to be pointing at himself with his right thumb. The images in group "e" show a high school football game between two unknown teams. Image 17e shows a play being run. A referee is visible running to the left of center of the image, and a man in a suit is visible in the far background near the left-hand edge of the image. Image 18e shows a play ending as a player is tackled. Two referees are the furthest people toward the right-hand side of the image. Images 19e through 28e are too faded and/or underexposed to make out. The images in group "f" show a high school football game between the North Thurston Rams and an unknown team. Image 19f shows a player from North Thurston running the ball near the center of the image. His jersey number may be 29 or 39. A referee is near the center of the image running with his left arm out to the side. Image 20f shows a North Thurston player being tackled by several playrs for the unknown team. Player 1 for the unknown team is being blocked at the left-hand side of the image. Image 21f shows a play being run. A referee is just above the center of the image, and player 18 for North Thurston is the player furthest toward the right-hand side of the image. Image 22f shows a play being run. A referee is at the right-hand side of the image facing toward the left. He is shown in profile. Image 23f shows many North Thurston players walking from the right-hand side of the image toward the left. The scoreboard is visible in the background. The image is very blurry. Image 24f shows a very blurry view of the scoreboard. The images in group "g" show a high school football game between one unknown team with C's on their helmets (likely Centralia High School) and a second unknown team. Image 37g shows a player for the unknown team with plain helmets running the ball. There is a referee very near the left-hand edge of the image facing away from the camera, and a second referee just to the right of the center of the image also facing away from the camera. Images 38g and 39g are either too faded or too underexposed to make anything out. Image 40g shows a play being run. Players 87 and 55 for the unknown team with plain helmets are visible near the center of the image facing away from the camera. Image 41g shows a play being run. Player 14 for the team with C's on their helmets is the furthest player toward the left-hand side fo the image. Image 42g shows a play being run. Player 87 is the player nearest the camera, and he is also near the center of the image.
Printed in alternation along one edge of the strips in groups a, b and d is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM." Printed at intervals along one edge of the strips in groups c and e-g is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."Made/Created
