Description

Vaudeville Show, unknown date. These three black and white film negative strips were created by the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a ventiloquism act, an acrobatic/strength act and a cowboy-themed performer. Image 3a shows one man and two young women participating in a ventriloquism show, The man is the ventriloquist. Image 4a shows only the man and the dummy on stage. Image 5a shows a man holding a child or small adult up in the air with one arm. The person in the air is balancing with their head on the man's hand. Both people are facing away from the camera. Image 6a shows the child or small adult doing a handstand on the man's hands. Image 7a shows a man in a hispanic-style cowboy outfit on stage. He is holding a microphone down at his side with his right hand. Image 8a shows the man in the cowboy outfit holding his hat in his right hand and either speaking or singing into the microphone. Image 9a shows the man in the cowboy outfit playing a percussion instrument made up of approximately 15 bottles or martini shakers. Image 10a shows the crowd at the vaudeville show. There is a row of empty, stacked chairs near the bottom right corner of the image. Image 11a shows three men and four children posing in front of a sign which reads "VAUDEVILLE." They have four large stuffed animals with them, two of which appear to be dinosaurs and two of which appear to be giraffes. Image 12a is virtually identical to image 11a. Image 13a shows a little girl (one of the children from the previous two images) picking up one of the large stuffed giraffes. There is a man in glasses with a mustache behind her, and two other children standing in the background. The images in group "b" show tree adults who appear to be acting out a scene. Image 6b shows one man and one woman seated at a table on a stage. The woman appears to be speaking to the man. Image 7b shows the same man and woman seated at the table, but a second man is now standing next to the table and speaking to the two seated adults. Image 8b shows the man standing next to the table reaching out with his right han toward the seated man. Image 9b is very similar to image 7b, but the two seated adults are looking at eachother. Printed at intervals along one edge of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
