Description

Products and businesses, unknown dates. These fourteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. The images in this sleeve were created using as many as nine different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips used to identify the images are repeated several times. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show various products for retail sale. It appears that the images in this group were taken at several different stores. Image 42a shows a retail case with shoeboxes and shoe care products in it. The shoe boxes read "Kinney" on them. Image 43a shows three tins of tea on a shelf. Two of the tins read "CH'A CHING CHINESE RESTAURANT TEA" and one reads "Mountain-Grown DARJEELING TEA." Image 44a shows half of a large wheel of cheese cut into two pieces on a wooden cutting board. There is a long-bladed knife laying on the cutting board between the two quarters of the cheese wheel. This image was captured from above the cheese wheel. Image 1a is very similar to image 44a, but the photographer has zoomed in slightly and rotated the camera counter-clockwise slightly. Image 2 shows the same scene as the previous two images, but this image was captured from just above the height of the cutting board on which the cheese and knife sit. Image 3a is very similar to image 2a, but the photographer has moved to his left slightly. Image 4a shows a sign which reads "SALE" sitting on a table surrounded by decorated ceramic vessels of various shapes. Two of the items have an owl design on them, two have a floral design, and one has a fish design. Image 5a shows a display of seeds packaged in small packets. The two packets nearest the center of the image read "OKRA" and "MUSTARD." Image 6a also shows packets of seeds, but a different variety. The packets nearest the center of the image are "SWEET CORN," "PEAS" and "CORN." Image 7a shows an aisle marker at a retail store which reads "19 A." The ceiling of the store is in the background. Image 8a shows a variety of fishing nets on display. Image 9a shows many fishing poles on display. Image 10a shows baskets on display. They are stacked in such a way that the handles criss-cross eachother. Image 11a shows various types of camera film on a display. Image 12a shows an Intercity Transit bus parked outside South Sound Center. Visible in the background are the signs for Hickory Farms, Kinney Shoes and People's department store. The images in group "b" show several different items individually photographed on top of a blank sheet of paper or similar item, and a man wearing glasses in a jacket and tie. Several of the images show an advertisement or small pamphlet for Myron "Mike" Kreidler. Image 33b shows a pill container which reads "vitamates vitamin C." Image 39b shows a Melitta Coffeemaker still in the package. Images 40b and 41b are nearly identical to image 39b. Image 42b shows a man with sideburns and glasses wearing a jacket and tie. He is similing. Image 43b is very similar to the previous images, but he is smiling only slightly. Image 5b shows a package of Hydrox cookies. The images in group "c" show interior shots of a retail store or possibly several different stores. Image 37c shows a man with a beard browsing through a belt display. Image 38c shows sheets of paper of various sizes on a table with a sign which reads "free recipes" on it. The sheets of paper have text on them and a logo of a barrel with "vino fino" on it. Image 39c shows a man and a boy speaking to a second man behind a retail counter. Visible on the wall in the background is a sign which reads "VinoFino." The man behind the counter has his forearms resting on the counter. Image 40c is very similar to the previous image, but the man behind the counter is holding a knife or similar-shaped object. Image 41c shows a leather canteen hanging on its strap. The images in group "d" show the interior of a boating store. Image 16d (the physical number 16 on this strip is cut off) shows a large rectangular object. It may be a cabinet. Image 17d shows a man standing next to and leaning on the outboard motor of a motorboat. The image is oriented horizontally. Image 18d is very similar to the previous image, but it is oriented vertically. Image 19d shows many outboard motors on display next to a window. A man is standing next to one of the motors toward the rear of the image. The images in group "e" show a sign which reads "FAST BREAK PUB" mounted on a shingled wall. Image 6e shows the entire sign within the image frame. Image 7e shows the portion of the sign with the text on it. Image 8e shows an illustration of a basketball and a basketball hoop which is on the right-hand end of the sign. The images in group "f" show a comic book on a table. Image 23f shows the comic which reads "CLASSIC COMICS Presents James Fennimore Cooper's THE LAST OF THE MOHICANS." Image 24f shows the same comic, but the photographer has either zoomed in or moved closer to the comic. The images in group "g" show a thermos laying down on a piece of paper or similar item. The label of the thermos reads "RIVIERA'S THERMOS FOOD CADDY." Images 27g and 28 are nearly identical. The image in group "h" (29h) shows a sign which reads "TIMBERLINE TRACK 1974" and shows the track meet schedule for Timberline High School below. To the left of this poster is a calendar, but the month is not visible. The image in group "i" (1i) shows a small television on a shelf. There is floral wallpaper on the wall behind the television. Printed in alternation on all the strips which are long enough to show the labeling is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
