Description

Buildings and businesses, unknown dates. These images were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using six different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips used to differentiate between images are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show exterior shots of three restaurants: Los Hermanos, Blly Burritos and Dirty Dave's. Image 25a shows an exterior shot of the Los Hermanos restaurant. The image was captured from the parking lot near the sidewalk. A sign reading "Los Hermanos Mexican Restaurant" and "Cocktails" is visible to the left of the building, as is one parked car. Image 26a also shows an exterior shot of the Los Hermanos restaurant, but the photographer has moved approximately 30 feet to their right. At the right-hand side of the building is a smaller section of the building with a door facing the camera. There is a shopping cart parked in front of this door. Image 27a shows an exterior shot of the Billy Burritos restaurant. The image was captured from the restaurant's parking lot, and the Billy Burritos sign is visible in the top right corner of the image. Hanging on the building is a large banner which reads "Today's Special" and "BILLY'S SPECIAL BURRITO." Image 28a is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned to their right slightly. Image 29a shows an exterior shot of Dirty Dave's. The image was captured from the right-hand side of the parking lot, and two dumpsters are visible at the right of the image behind the restaurant. Image 30a is nearly identical to image 29a. Image 31a is similar to the two previous images, but it was captured straight-on to the restautant. Image 32a also shows the exterior of Dirty Dave's, but the image was taken from the left-hand side of the parking lot. There are two homes and one parked car visible at the right-hand side of the image. Image 33a is nearly identical to image 28a. Image 34a shows an exterior shot of the Billy Burritos restaurant, and it was taken from a nearly straight-on angle to the front of the building. There is a hatchback car visible at the right-hand side of the image. The images in group "b" show exterior shots of the Washington State Capitol Building from the north side. Image 7b shows the right-hand half of the Capitol. Four of the columns at the entrance are visible in this image. Image 8b shows the left-hand half of the Capitol, and includes nearly the entirety of the entrance section of the building. Image 9b shows the center section of the Capitol. The entrance section of the building is visible, as are portions of both the west and east wings of the building. Image 10b shows the Capitol's rotunda. Image 11b is very similar to image 7a, but the photographer has panned slightly more toward the right. Image 12b is nearly identical to image 8b. The images in group "c" show a woman (Judy Wilson) in a jacket with a nametag seated at a desk. The desk has a sign on the front which reads "Century 21" and "HOMETOWN." Behind her on the wall is a poster showing a man holding a "TOP SALES ASSOCIATE" plaque being kissed by a woman as a young girl and a dog stand nearby. Along the top of the poster reads "WE WANT EVERY PERSON WE TRAIN TO BECOME A NEIGHBORHOOD PROFESSIONAL." Image 24c shows the woman with her hands folded on top of a catalogue or similar item. She is smiling and looking at the camera. Image 25c shows the woman holding the catalogue open while smiling at the camera. Image 26c shows the woman with her hands folded, but here she is not smiling. Image 27c shows the woman smiling at the camera and her hands folded on top of the desk. Her right hand is obscured by the catalogue. Image 28c is cut off, and the woman is not visible in the image. The images in group "d" show a helicopter taking off from a sports field adjacent to what appears to be a school building. Image 7d shows the helicopter approximately two feet off of the ground. The back end of the helicopter is oriented toward the camera. Image 8d shows the helicopter appximately three feet off the ground. The helicopter has turned slightly to its right. Image 9d shows the helicopter approximately four feet off the ground, and its right-hand side oriented toward the camera. Image 10d shows the helicopter approximately 35 feet off of the ground. It is flying over some playground equipment and a building which appears to be a school. The images in group "e" show exterior shots of a store called Candy Corner. The store is located on a street corner. Image 28e shows the store. Walking toward the camera along a sidewalk at the right-hand side of the building are two adults. Image 29e is very similar to the previous image, but the two adults have walked closer to the camera. There is a small portion of the back end of an automobile near the bottom-right corner of the image. Image 30e shows a very similar scene to that of the previous images, but the only visible pedestrian is a man with a beard in glasses walking past the front of the store toward the left-hand side of the image. The single image in group "f" shows the sign for South Sound Center standing at one of the corners of the shopping center's parking lot. At the top of sign is a design element made to look like a person in a tall hat blowing a horn with a banner hanging from it. The banner reads "SS." Printed at intervals along one long edge of all of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
