Unidentified people, unknown dates. These fifteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using eight different film negative strips, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated several times. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to whch film roll they originally came from. Each group of strips will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the images' physical numbers (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show individual portraits of one man and one woman. Image 32a shows a man in a tie and plaid jacket looking toward the left side of the image frame. He appears to be speaking. Image 33a is similar to the previous image, but the man is smiling. Image 34a shows the man speaking, but he is turned more toward the camera than in image 32a. Image 35a shows a woman in horn-rimmed glasses wearing a diagonally-striped jacket. She is smiling and facing slightly to the right of the camera. Image 36a is nearly identical to image 35a. Image 37a shows the woman smiling and facing slightly toward the left of the camera. Image 38a is nearly identical to image 37a. The images in group "b" show six different young men posing for individual portraits. Image 38b shows a young man in a letterman's jacket. A patch which reads "Phil" is on his left shoulder. Image 39b is nearly identical to image 38b. Image 40b shows a young man in a letterman's jacket with a large "T" on the left breast (presumably for "Timberline"). He also has a patch on his right shoulder which reads "Brad." Image 42b shows a young man in a blazer with very large lapels and a dress shirt with a very large collar. He is also wearing plaid pants. Image 43b is nearly identical to image 42b. Image 44b shows a young man in a plaid blazer with a turtleneck sweater underneath. Image 1b is nearly identical to image 44b. Image 2b shows a young man wearing a dress shirt with a large collar. His hair is straight, he has sideburns, and his earlobes are protruding out from under his hair. Image 3b is nealy identical to image 2b. Image 4b shows a young man in a dress shirt with wavy hair. His hair is approximately mid-neck length. Image 5b is nearly identical to image 4b. The images in group "c" show individual portraits of one man and one woman. Image 35c shows a man in glasses wearing a suit with very pronounced stitching along the edges of his lapels. Images 36c and 37c are nearly identical to image 35c. Image 38c shows an image similar to television static. Image 39c shows a woman in a top with a large collar and a sweater over the top. Images 40c-42c are all nearly identical, although image 41c is flipped along its horizontal axis relative to the other images. The images in group "d" show three different men posing for individual portraits and a telephone on a desk. Image 10d shows a man in a pinstriped suit and paisley tie with a corsage on his lapel. Image 11d shows a man with a mustache that connects to his sideburns. He appears to be wearing some sort of military dress uniform. Images 12d and 13d are nearly identical to image 11d. Image 14d shows a man with sideburns in a suit and tie smiling. There is small tag on his left lapel with a stylized "R" on it. Image 15d is nearly identical to image 14d. Image 16d shows a telephone sitting on a desk. Image 17d is similar to 14d and 15d, but the man's smile is less pronounced. The images in group "e" show a woman in glasses and a sweater-vest in front of a wood-paneled wall, which suggests the image was captured at the Lacey Leader offices. Image 35e shos the woman smiling and her body oriented slightly toward the left of the camera. Image 36e is similar to the previous image, but the woman is not smiling. Image 37e is similar to image 35e, but the woman's body is oriented toward the right of the camera. The images in group "f" show a man in a short-sleeved shirt with a short zipper extending down from his collar. The zipper has a ring attached to it. Image 24f shows the man with his body oriented toward the right-hand side of the image frame and smiling. Image 26f shows the man speaking, but the photographer has also zoomed in closer to him. Image 27f is nearly identical to image 25f. The images in group "g" show a woman in a top with a ruffle at te collar. These images were taken in front of a wood-paneled wall, suggesting that they were taken at the Lacey Leader office. Image 42g shows the woman wearing glasses and either speaking or laughing. Image 43g shows the woman still wearing the glasses and smiling. Image 44g shows the woman no longer wearing glasses and smiling slightly. Image 1g shows the woman, again not wearing glasses, with a larger smile on her face. The images in group "h" show a man with glasses in a suit with no tie seated at a desk or table. Image 1h shows the man looking down at a piece of paper and writing someting on it. There is a small sign above the doorway behind him which appears to read "KEN STEVENS." Image 2h is very similar to image 1h, but the camera is pitched down relative to the previous image, so the Ken Stevens sign is outside of the image frame. Image 3h shows looking downward and holding an unknown object in his left hand. Image 4h shows the man looking toward the camera and holding a coffee cup in his right hand. The images in group "i" show a man in glasses, a suit and a patterned tie. Images 35i through 38i are all nearly identical. The images in group "j" show a man in a plaid vest and matching pants posing with electronic equipment. Image 14j shows the man holding a circular object which appears to be a data reel. He is standing next to a shelf with many other reels on it. Image 15j is nearly identical to image 14j. Image 16j shows a row of electronic devices which resemble metal cabinets. Image 17j is similar to image 16j, but the man in the plaid vest and pants is standing in front of one of the cabinets and looking at it.
Ken Balsley believed that the two young men shown in images 38b-41b may be Brad and PhilComstock, two local brothers. Phil Comstock later went on to become a Lacey police officer, and Brad Comstock went on to own a coffee shop in downtown Olympia. (Ken Balsley interview, 11/11/2016)
