Unidentified, unknown dates. These fifteen black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using many different film rolls, so many of the physical numbers on the strips are duplicated. For the purposes of this description, each of the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a bearded man in a rain suit, home appliances, a woman posing in front of the same home appliances, and three small children playing with toys. Image 9a shows a bearded man in a rain suit. The hood is up, and he is holding both hands up, palms facing outward. Image 10a is similar to the previous image, but the man is no longer wearing the hood and his arms are down at his sides. Image 11a shows two home appliances. The one on the left appears to have a double door on the front with a single handle on the left-hand door. A logo reads "Miss Nassau" and there is a small shelf on the upper right portion of the appliance which reads "SOAP." This appliance appears to be a dish washer. The appliance on the right is an oven with a wood-grain pattern over most of its surface. Image 12a shows a woman with long hair wearing a sweater and a skirt posing in front of the two home appliances. Image 13a shows three small children standing next to a table with many toys on it. The toys include trains, trucks, wooden blocks and others. The images in group "b" show one female and one male police officer sitting in the front of a Lacey Police cruiser. The male officer is in the passenger seat, and the female officer is in the driver's seat. Image 35b shows the two officers looking at eachother. The image was captured through the passenger side window. Image 36b is similar to the previous image, but both officers are looking toward the camera. Image 37b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 38b shows both officers looking toward the camera, but this image was captured from the driver's side of the cruiser. Partially visible on the driver's s side door is a logo which reads "PREVENT CRIME" and "LACEY POLICE." The images in group "c" show a young person playing a cello is what appears to be a middle school, high school, or possibly college band classroom. In all of the images there is a person partially visible on the left-hand side of the very near foreground. This person is presumably the band director. Image 29c shows the young person playing the cello. The fingers of the young person's left hand are all fairly close together. Image 30c is very similar to the previous image, but the young person's little finger is extended outward from the other fingers. Image 31c is similar to the previous two images, but the right hand of the person in the near foreground is obscuring part of the cellist's face. Image 32c shows the cellist smiling and no longer playing. The images in group "d" show a person in an Easter Bunny costume seated in a chair with a baby seated on their lap. Image 42d shows the person in the Easter Bunny costume seated in the chair without the baby seated on his lap. This image also has a second image overlapping it, making it difficult to make out details. Image 43d shows the person in the Easter Bunny costume with the baby seated on their lap. The baby's mouth is slightly open. Image 44d is very similar to the previous image, but the baby appears to be crying. Image 1d is very similar to image 43d, but the baby's head is tipped more toward their right. The images in group "e" show a woman seated on a bed holding an infant. A second woman is also shown looking at the baby. Image 44e shows a woman in glasses seated on a bed and holding an infant. She is reaching up toward the baby's face. Image 1e is nearly identical to the previous image, but a second woman is leaning into the image from the right-hand side. Image 2e again shows the woman holding the baby, but here the woman is shown nearly in profile, althought her hair is covering much of her face. A portion of the second woman's face and her right arm are visible at the left-hand side of the image. Image 3e is nealy identical to the previous image, but the woman in glasses's righth hand is covering slightly more of th infant's face. The images in group "f" show two men and one woman on a stage. The woman and one of the men are seated at a table, and the second man is standing. Image 2f shows the seated man speaking to the standing man. The seated man is gesturing with his right hand. Image 3f shows the woman speaking to the standing man. She is gesturing with her left hand. Image 4f shows the standing man facing out toward where the audience is presumably seated. He is gesturing with both hands. Image 5f shows the standing man facing the two seated people and reaching out toward them with his right hand. The images in group "g" show a birthday party for a woman named Alma, a meeting and three posed group photographs of the same group. These images appear to have been captured in the Lacey Museum, and the group shown in the group photo is the Lacey Historical Society. Image 1g shows two older women looking down at a sheet birthday cake in a box. The cake reads "Happy Birthday Alma." There are approximately five other people also visible in the image. Image 2g shows one of the two women from the previous image still looking down at the cake. The woman is wearing a head wrap and a long jacket, and is holding a purse. Image 3g shows one man and two women posing for a photo with the birthday cake. The image is oriented horizontally. Image 4g is very similar to the previous image, but it is oriented vertically. Image 5g shows approximately one dozen people gathered in a room with two large windows. There is one empty table at the center of the group, and several trunks or similar objects on the left-hand side of the image which are covered with pictures, documents, and possibly maps. Image 6g shows a group of four men and two women posing for a group photo. The man on the far left is Ken Balsley, and the taller man at center appears to be Father John Scott. Image 7g and 8g are nearly identical to image 6g. The images in group "h" show exterior shots of a shop called "Candy Corner." The shop is on a street corner. Image 24h shows the shop and two people walking down the sidewalk toward the camera. Image 25h shows the candy shop, but the photographer has moved slightly to their right, and no pedestrians are visible in the image. Image 26h shows the shop with a car passing in front. Only the rear end of the car is visible, and there is a large amount of exhaust leaving the car's tailpipe. Image 27h is nearly identical to image 25h. The images in group "i" show two men and two women posing for a photo is a dining room. Both women are seated, and one man is standing behind each woman. Image 41i shows the woman with long hair seated on the right. There is a large, light discoloration covering the bottom half of this image. Image 42i is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 43i shows the same people posing for the photo, but each man and woman has switched sides. The woman with the long hair is now on the left. Image 44i is nearly identical to image 43i. The images in group "j" show two men seated at a desk and a section of wall and a portion of what appears to be some sort of office equipment. Image 15j shows what appears to be two sections of wall meeting in a corner, the top portion of a bulletin board or similar item, and a portion of what appears to be some sort of electronic office equipment. Image 16j shows two men seated at a desk. One man is in the foreground and facing away from the camera, while a second man further away from the camera is shown from the right-hand side. There is a window in the background, and a car is partially visible parked outside. The man further from the camera is looking over at the man closer to the camera. Image 17j is very similar to the previous image, but the man further from the camera is looking down toward the desk. The images in group "k" show several shots of a group of approximately eighteen people posing for a group photo, and a choir group performing on stage. Image 1k shows the group posing for a photo. The women all appear to be in long dresses. One man is kneeling at the front of the group, and there is a child standing on the right-hand side of the first row. There is a set of stage curtains on the left-hand side of the image. They are open, and a man and woman are visible standing on the other side of the curtain. Images 2k and 3k are nearly identical to image 1k. Image 4k shows a choir performing on stage. Most or all of the choir members are children. Several of the choir members are wearing very long, vertically striped robes. The images in group "l" show a woman with glasses seated at a table with many small items on it. Most of the items appear to be candles. There are large windows and double doors visible in the background, and at several spots on these windows are decals which read "Woolworth's." Image 6l shows a box which reads "Manicure Set" and a deocative design which resembles a strawberry. The image is very underexposed, so it is difficult to make out any more details. Image 7l shows a box for a toy car which reads "HOT SHOTS." The image is also underexposed. Image 8l is very similar to the previous image, but it was appropriately exposed. The images in group "m" show two different children posing separately for portrait photos. Image 34m shows a young boy in a collared, button-up shirt. The shirt has a design which resembles a very large-format plaid. Images 35m and 36m are nearly identical to image 34m. Image 37m shows a child wearing a zippered sweatshirt or jacket. The child's hands are in the jacket's pockets. Images 38m through 40m are nearly identical.
The group shown in group "g" is the Lacey Historical Society. These images were captured during their first meeting in the then-new Lacey Museum. (Ken Balsley interview, 11/11/2016)
