Various people, 1973. These ten black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using several different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show six men posing for portrait-style photos. Image 8a shows a man (Dave Jekel) with glasses and a mustache wearing a tie tucked into an apron. He is showing an open-lipped smile, and his head and body are oriented toward the left-hand side of the image. Images 9a and 10a are nearly identical to image 8a. Image 11a is very similar to the previous three images, but Mr. Jekel is doing a closed-lipped smile. Image 12a shows a man in thick-rimmed glasses and a tie with many pens in his shirt pocket. His head and body are oriented slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame, he is looking toward the camera, and he is not smiling. Image 13a is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is smiling. Image 14a is very similar to image 13a, but the man's head and body are oriented toward the right-hand side of the image. Image 15a is very similar to the previous image, but the man has tilted his head down slightly. Image 16a is very similar to the previous image, but the man's smile is smaller. Image 17a shows a man (Tom Chaffee) with glasses and a tie tucked into his apron. Mr. Chaffee's head and body are oriented toward the right-hand side of the image. He is smiling. Image 18a is similar to the previous image, but here there is a tag which reads "LACEY FOODS" visible on Mr. Chaffee's apron. Image 19a is nearly identical to image 18a. Image 20a is similar to the previous three images, but here Mr. Chaffee is no longer smiling. Image 22a shows a man (Rich Wells) with glasses and a thick mustache wearing a turtleneck sweater. His body is oriented toward the right-hand side of the image, and he is smiling. Image 36a shows a man (Fred Grant) with glasses in a suit and tie. His tie has a decoration showing medieval-style dragons, and he is not smiling. Image 37a is very similar to the previous image, but Mr. Grant is smiling slightly or laughing. The images in group "b" show two men posing for portrait-style photographs. All of the images in this group show the men with their heads and bodies oriented toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 2b shows a man (Ron McWain) with glasses wearing a suit and tie. The tie has a diamond pattern on it. Images 3b and 4b are nearly identical to image 2b. Image 5b shows Ric Wells with glasses and a thick mustache wearing a short-sleeved, button-up shirt. He is the same man shown in image 22b. He appears to be looking off to the left of the camera. Image 6b is very similar to image 5b, but Mr. Wells has turned his head more toward the camera. Image 7b is very similar to image 5b, but Mr. Wells is showing a closed-lipped smile. Image 8b is nearly identical to image 7b. Image 9b is nearly identical to 5b. Image 10b shows Ron McWain, also shown in images 2b through 4b. He is also wearing the same outfit. He is not smiling. Image 11b is very similar to the previous image, but Mr. McWain has tilted his head upward slightly. Image 12b is nearly identical to image 11b. The images in group "c" show a young woman posing individually. Image 10c shows a young woman with long hair wearing a sweater with a rose design on the front. She is smiling and appears to be speaking. Image 11c is very similar to the previous image, but here she is smiling more widely and is also not speaking. Image 12c is nearly identical to image 11c. Image 19c shows a woman (Shirley Dziedzic) in a polka-dot top with frills around the collar and down the front. She is looking off toward the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 20c is similar to the previous image, but Ms. Dziedzic is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 21c is very similar to image 19c, but Ms. Dziedzic is facing toward the right instead of the left. The images in group "d" show a young woman with long hair wearing a blazer over a turtleneck sweater. She is also wearing a pendant necklace. Image 11d shows the young woman with her torso oriented toward the right-hand side of the image frame. She is facing directly toward the camera and smiling. Image 12d is very similar to the previous image, but the young woman has turned her head very slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 13d is very similar to the previous image, but the woman has again turned slightly more toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 14d is nearly identical to image 12d.
The three images of Ms. Dziedzic were created for inclusion with an article in the Lacey Leader concerning her then-recent appointment to the Lacey Planning Commission. (Lacey Leader, 8/1/1973, pg.1-2) The images of Ron McWain and image 22b (showing Rich Wells) were included in an article in the Lacey Leader concerning the Red Bull restaurant's second anniversary. (Lacey Leader, 9/12/1973, pg.7) The images of Fred Grant were created to accompany an article in the Lacey Leader concerning Mr. Grant making a presentation to the Lacey Area Chamber of Commerce.
