Context

The character of Detective McGruff was not invented and named until July 1980 but was very popular in the early 1980's, primarily for TV ads promoting home security. Mandy Morrissette was from the local area. Peoples Store was one of the anchor stores for the South Sound Center and was part of a chain originally founded in Tacoma that lasted from 1888 to 1984.
