2007-012.F301PDescription
North Thurston Decathlon and Pentathlon, 1974. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are duplicated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show four different young people posing for portrait-style photos. Image 24a shows a young woman wearing a medal around her neck and a shirt which appears to read "ALUMNI '74." Her head and body are turned slightly toward the right-hand side of the image, and she is shown from the chest up. Image 25a is very similar to the previous image, but here the young woman's head and body are turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 26a is similar to the previous image, but the young woman is shown from the waist up. Image 27a shows a young man with glasses and a very light beard wearing a tanktop which reads "HOLGATE" and "15." He is facing directly toward the camera, and he is shown from the waist up. Image 29a is similar to the previous image, but here the young man's head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image. Image 30a is similar to the previous two images, but the young man is shown from the waist up. The images in group "b" show two young men posing for portait-style photos, several people standing on a football/track field, and some grass and a pair of legs in plaid pants. The images on the strip bearing the physical numbers 5-8 are overlapping with eachother, making the individual numbers not correspond with the individual images. The image on the "bottom" of this strip shows a young man wearing a t-shirt which reads "nw" and has a decoration which resembles a compass pointing to the top left. He is shown from the chest up. The image above that just described shows the same young man as in the previous image, but he has turned his head and body toward the left-hand side of the image. Here he is also shown from the waist up. The next image up shows a footbal/track field with approximately one dozen people visible standing on it. Three tall light poles are visible in the background. The next image up shows a young man wearing a track and field vest with a diagonal bar crossing the chest. He is facing directly toward the camera. His head is difficult to see because the top part of the image is overlapped by the next image. The next image up shows the same young man as shown in the previous image, but his head and body are turned toward the left-hand side of the image. The images on the second strip in group "b" are not overlapping. Image 28b shows a stretch of grass and the bottom half of a pair of legs in plaid pants. There is also a portion of a structure visible in the top-left quadrant of this image. Image 29b shows the young man wearing the track and field vest with the diagonal bar crossing the chest. His head and body are turned slightly toward the left-hand side of the image, and his hands are on his hips. Image 30a is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has either zoomed out or moved away slightly from the young man. There is a fourth strip which originally held six images, but all of the images are extremely faded. The two images at the bottom are virtually blank. The third image up shows a faint image of a young man in a track and field vest. The fourth and fifth images up also show faint images of the same young man. The image on the top of the strip shows someone performing an activity outdoors. There is a building visible in the background.Made/Created
