Halloween, 1975. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using two different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are duplicated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Both of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with their physical numbers (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a person dressed as a zombie, a person dressed as a witch doing someone's hair, and a person in a mask and wig doing the hair of a person in Halloween makeup. Image 8a shows a person dressed as a witch. They are wearing a tall, pointy hat with stars, a moon, and a black cat on it. They are also wearing a cloak. Image 9a shows a woman (Deanie Shurtz) wearing zombie makeup. She is also wearing a jacket over a plaid shirt. Ms. Shurtz is shown from the hips up. Image 10a is very similar to image 9a, but the photographer has zoomed in or moved closer to the subject. Here Ms. Shurtz is shown from the mid-torso up. Image 13a shows a person in a mask and wig doing the hair of a person in Halloween makeup. They are in front of a three-part mirror. Both people are looking into the mirror, and their reflections are visible in the image. Image 14a is virtually identical to image 13a. Image 15a is very similar to the previous two images, but the photographer has either zoomed in or moved closer to their subject. Image 16a is similar to the previous three images, but the two people are shown and their reflections are not. Both are looking toward the camera. Image 17a is very similar to the previous image, but the person in the mask and wig is leaning down more closely to the person in Halloween makeup. The images in group "b" show people in various Halloween costumes posing for photos. Image 11b shows a woman (Lauren Balsley) in a Halloween costume consisting of three antennae, a polka-dotted top, and makeup. She is facing toward the left-hand side of the image, and she appears to be speaking. Image 12b shows a person in a scarecrow costume. They are wearing a plaid shirt with straw sticking out of various spots. This person is looking toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 13b shows a man ("Rags" Thorton) in a jacket and patterned, button-up shirt with a partially-eaten donut in his right hand. Image 14b shows a woman in a cloak with a large, stand-up collar doing someone's hair. Image 15b shows Lauren Balsley posing for a photo. Mrs. Balsley is looking directly toward the camera. Image 16b is nearly identical to image 15b. Image 17b again shows Mrs. Balsley, but she is looking over her left shoulder toward the camera. Image 18b shows five people in Halloween costumes posing for a photo. They are posing in front of an open bank vault. From left to right, the costumes appear to be a scarecrow, a combination old lady/clown, unknown, unknown, and a sad clown. These people are shown from head to toe. Image 19b is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has zoomed in or moved closer to the subjects. Here the people are shown from the knees up. Image 20b shows three of the people from the previous two images standing, and the old lady/clown seated on the floor.Made/Created
