Description

Unidentified People, 1975. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they came from. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show six different men in suits and ties posing in different combinations for photos. Image 2a shows three men in suits and ties posing for a photo. The man on the left and the man on the right are both wearing glasses. The man on the left is holding up a plaque (turned away from the camera) and the man on the right is holding up a document. All three men are looking at the plaque or document. Images 3a and 4a are nearly identical to image 2a. Image 5a shows the same three men from images 2a-4a, but they are no longer holding any objects. Image 6a shows three men posing for a photo, but only the man in the center is the same as in images 2a throught 5a. The two new men are wearing glasses, and the man on the left (Neil Woody) is wearing a plaid blazer. Images 7a and 8a are nearly identical to image 6a. Image 9a shows an individual portrait-style photo of the man in the center of images 2a-8a. Image 17a shows two men in suits and ties posing for a photo. They are both holding onto the same plaque. The man on the left is the same man on the left in images 2a through 5a. The man on the right is Ed Bagley. Image 18a is similar to the previous image, but the man on the left is facing toward the right-hand side of the image and reaching up to adjust his tie. The images in group "b" show a woman seated at a desk, two different men looking at magnetic tape data storage devices, a street and several homes, and a small corn patch. Image 13b shows a woman in glasses seated at a desk and looking through a book, magazine or catalog. She is looking up toward the camera. Ken Balsley believed that this woman may be Dail Ashley, a receptionist for the Lacey Leader newspaper. Image 18b shows a man with a beard wearing a plaid vest and pants looking at one of a row of magnetic data storage devices. Image 19b shows a man in a short-sleeved, button-up shirt looking at the same magnetic data storage devices. Image 20b shows a Lacey Police patrol car driving away from the camera on a street with several houses on it. Image 21b is very similar to the previous image, but the patrol car is further away from the camera. Image 22b shows a small corn patch in a grassy lot across from the then-location of the Lacey City Hall. The images in group "c" show a man and a woman baking bread. Image 16c shows a man in a chef's hat and apron either placing a loaf of bread in the oven or removing it. The woman is looking toward the oven. Images 17c and 18c are nearly identical to image 16c. Printed in alternation along one edge of each of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
