Description

Camping Boating Trip, 1975. These three film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show six young women (Karen Ward, Rebecca Thompson, Louisa Ward, Loye Williams, Diane deMoulin and Joy Rogers), an older woman (Sissie Kluh) and an older man (Ted Kluh) boating and camping. The young women were contestants in the Miss Thurston County pageant, and these images show them participating in a retreat related to the pageant. Image 1 shows a man in a short-sleeved shirt standing near several trees in an otherwise very open and flat area of grass. Image 2 shows approximately six people in a large, open field of grass. Image 3 shows seven people eating at a wooden picnic table. There is a box of Albertson's brand potato chips at the far end of the table. Image 4 shows approximately seven people standing near or sitting at a wooden picnic table. There is a flotation device on the table. A man in a baseball cap is putting his right foot up on the seat of the table and looking back behind him. Image 5 shows a person walking across a grassy area with a fern frond held up to obscure their face. Image 6 shows a young woman crossing a grassy field with an armload of fern fronds. Image 7 shows several people standing between two trees and holding up fern fronds to obscure their faces from the camera. Image 8 shows a larger group of people obscuring their faces from the camera with fern fronds. Image 9 shows six young women, an older woman and an older man posing for a group photo. The young women are, from left to right, Karen Ward, Rebecca Thompson, Louisa Ward, Loye Williams, Diane deMoulin and Joy Rogers. The older man is Ted Kluh, and the older woman is Sissie Kluh. They are on the Kluh's boat, the "Klu Maru." Image 10 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 11 shows a woman in glasses and a jacket seated in a boat. A second woman is in the bottom right corner of the image, and is looking up at the camera. Image 12 shows three young women seated in a boat, and one older woman in the background facing away from the camera. Image 13 shows two women seated in a boat and one man in a cap standing in the boat. These images were created for inclusion with an article in the Lacey Leader newspaper concerning a recreational retreat for MAD Festival Queen contestants provided by Ted and Sissie Kluh. (Lacey Leader 8/13/1975, pg. 3) Printed in alternation along one edge of each of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK PLUS X PAN FILM."
