Unidentified People, 1975. These six black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three different film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. Image 2a shows a man wearing a v-neck sweater over a turtleneck sweater pointing to a map hanging on a wall. Image 3a shows the man in the sweater and turtleneck still standing near to the map, but he is turning his head to his right to address several people seated behind him. Image 4a is very similar to the previous image, but the man is looking and pointing to a portion of the bottom of the map. Image 5a is similar to the previous two images, but the man is turned to the people behind him and touching his outstretched fingers of both hands together. Image 6a shows a man in glasses seated in a room and looking at a document held in his left hand. There is an open door with an exit sign above it beyond the man in the glasses. Image 7a shows the man in glasses from the previous image with his head turned more toward the camera. A different man with glasses at the left-hand edge of the image is reaching up to adjust his glasses. Image 8a shows two women and one man seated at a long desk. The man at left is George Yantis and the woman at the center is Marj Yung. Mr. Yantis and Ms. Yung were both Thurston County Commissioners, and this image likely shows a Thurston County Commission meeting. On the front of the desk is a small sign which reads "DISTRICT 2 KEN STEVENS." A mug in front of George Yantis reads "GEORGE." Image 9a shows approximately nine men seated in the same room shown in images 6a and 7a. There is a bulletin board with several photos on it visible on the wall. Seated below this bulletin board is a man wearing glasses and an eye patch. Image 10a shows a man in glasses and a tie seated below the map seen in images 2a through 5a. He is holding up a document in his left hand. Image 11a shows a display case filled with many items pertaining to the Girl Scouts. On the left-hand side of the case is an item which reads "TROOP 209." Image 12a shows the same display case, but this image was captured from the right-hand side of the case. This image is oriented vertically. Image 13a shows the same case again. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 21b shows the parking lot of the Olympia City Hall. Five tall pillars are visible at the left-hand side of the image. Image 22b shows the same parking lot. At the left-hand edge of the image is a sign which reads "ONE WAY" with an arrow pointed toward the right. Image 23 a shows a man in a plaid shirt and a jacket with the Washington State University logo on the left breast posing for a photo. Image 24a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 25a shows a man with glasses and long sideburns looking toward the camera and either laughing or speaking. Image 32b shows a woman with a little girl sitting on her lap. The woman is also holding open a children's book or magazine. The woman and the child are both looking at the camera and smiling. Image 33b shows three older women in glasses posing for a photo. The woman in the middle is holding up two document. Image 34b is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 35b is very similar to the previous image, but the woman at the center is holding up paper flowers. Image 17c shows a man with a gun belt kneeling on the ground in front of several people who are watching him. The person furthest to the right is a bearded man (Jim Slosson) wearing glasses and a plaid shirt. This image is oriented vertically. Image 18c shows the same scene, but the photographer has backed away from the scene and turned the image frame horizontal, making more of the onlookers visible in the image. Image 19c is nearly identical to the previous image.
George Yantis and Marj Yung served together on the Thurston County Commission from 1975 to 1976. Ken Stevens was the third Thurston County Commissioner during those years. The parking lot shown in images 21b and 22b is the parking lot for Olympia's third city hall which was located on Plum Street. This building served as Olympia's city hall from its completion in 1966 until 2011, when a new city hall was completed on 4th Avenue in downtown Olympia. Jim Slosson was a long-time teacher at North Thurston High School.
Printed in alternation along one edge of each of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
