Blood Donors, 1975. These three film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a woman (Mary Ann Kirkby) and a man (Ken Balsley) donating blood. Image Image 30 shows Ms. Kirkby laying on a medical table and a female nurse in a short-sleeved dress standing over her. There is a woman wearing glasses and holding a coat at the left-hand edge of the image frame. Image 31 shows Ms. Kirkby laying on the medical table. She appears to be laughing. Image 32 shows the nurse standing over Ms. Kirkby. Ms. Kirkby is looking toward the camera. The nurse is wearing a nametag which reads "SUSAN BOYNTON Puget Sound Blood Center." Image 33 shows the nurse poking or tickling the Ms. Kirkby in the ribs. Ms. Kirkby is laughing. Image 34 is very similar to the previous image, but the nurse is not touching Ms. Kirkby. Image 35 shows Ms. Kirkby looking up toward the nurse's face. Image 36 shows the nurse standing over Ms. Kirkby. The nurse is holding a small bottle or medical device in her right hand and appears to be pointing at Ms. Kirkby. Image 37 shows the nurse bending forward and reaching toward Ms. Kirkby's arm. The nurse's hands are obscured by Ms. Kirkby's torso. Image 38 shows Ken Balsley laying on a medical table with his hands folded behind his head. Image 39 shows Mr. Balsley laying on a medical table with his left shirt sleeve rolled up. A person's arm is visible coming out of the left-hand edge of the image. The hand of that arm is holding a pair of tongs. Image 40 shows Mr. Balsey holding his head up slightly from the pillow on the medical table. Visible in the background is a bulletin board which reads "HAPPY EASTER." Image 41 shows Mr. Balsley laying on the medical table. Visible just beyond his feet is a window looking outside.
These images were created for inclusion in an article in the Lacey Leader concerning Puget Sound Blood Center's mobile donation unit visiting Lacey. (Lacey Leader, 3/5/1975, pg.1, 3 and 4)
