Description

Secretary of State Petition Court, 1973. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show 10-12 women in a room with the walls lined with many drawers. Most of the women are seated at a table with piles of documents on it. Image 1 shows the women seated at the desk. Visible just above the bottom left corner of the image is a person's hand resting on a desktop. No other part of this person is visible in the image. Image 2 also shows the women seated at the desk. Here there is a stool with an ashtray on top of it near the bottom center of the image. Image 3 shows a woman (Lenore Betzing) in glasses reaching into a box which is on top of a cart. There is a second box nearer to the camera which reads "SER. NO." and "CANADIAN WHISKY". Image 4 is very similar to the previous image, but Ms. Betzing is holding a large stack of documents in her left hand. These images were captured for inclusion with an article in the Lacey Leader concerning the counting of petitions for Initiative 282. Initiative 282 limited the salaries of elected officials and judges. (Lacey Leader, 7/11/1973, pg. 7) Printed in alternation along one long edge of this film negative strip is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
