irst Aid Instruction, 1973. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a man (Steve Moorehead) in glasses with a firefighting badge demonstrating first aid techniques on a dummy. They also show two young men (Bob Cuykendall and Bob Fisher) performing CPR on the dummy. All of these images were captured at the Olympia Community Center. Image 1 shows Steve Moorehead standing and looking down at a document on a table in front of him. He is holding his left hand up at chest level with the fingers splayed out. Image 2 shows Mr. Moorehead standing next to a dummy on a table. His right hand is on top of the dummy's head and his left hand is on the dummy's chest. Image 3 is similar to the previous image, but Mr. Moorehead is no longer toucing the dummy. He appears to be speaking, and he is gesturing with his left hand. Image 4 shows Mr. Moorehead manipulating a flat recreation of a person's head which shows the sinuses and airway passages. Image 5 shows Mr. Moorehead with his right hand on the dummy's head and extending the index finger of his left hand. Image 6 Mr. Moorehead standing next to the dummy on the table. The head of a second dummy is visible at the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 7 shows Mr. Moorehead touching the dummy with only the fingertips of both hands. Image 8 shows Mr. Moorehead standing next to the dummy. The photographer has moved away from Mr. Moorehead and the backs of several people's heads are visible watching Mr. Moorehead's demonstration. A basketball hoop is visible near the top right corner of the image. Image 9 shows a fairly close-up view of Mr. Moorehead's head in profile. Image 10 shows two young men (Bob Cuykendall at left, Bob Fisher at right) practicing CPR on a dummy made up only of a head and chest cavity. Mr. Cuykendall is bending down to breathe into the dummy's mouth and Mr. Fisher is doing chest compressions. This image is oriented vertically. Image 11 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 12 is very similar to the previous two images, but the image is oriented horizontally. Image 13 shows Mr. Moorehead taking something out of a small bowl next to the dummy on the table. Image 14 shows Mr. Moorehead touching the top of a bottle that is next to the head/chest cavity dummy. Image 15 shows Mr. Moorehead leaning over one of the head/chest cavity dummies. The people watching the demonstration are visible in the background. Approximately half of the spectators are standing, and some of them are speaking to eachother. Image 16 is similar to the previous image, but Mr. Moorehead is not leaning over. He is holding a small bag or similar item in both hands.
These images were created for inclusion with an article in the Lacey Leader newspaper concerning first aid classes which took place at the Olympia Community Center. (Lacey Leader, 7/18/1973, pg. 3)Made/Created
