Description

Ward Farms Strawberries, 1973. These three black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show people at a strawberry farm. Image 8 shows a man (Merv Ward Sr.) in glasses and two plaid shirts posing for a photo in front of a large field of strawberry plants. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 9 is very similar to the previous image, but it is oriented vertically. Image 10 shows many people harvesting strawberries in the strawberry field. Image 11 shows two women (Emily Addison at left, Judy Allison at right) harvesting strawberries. There is a wooden stake with the number 10 written on it in the ground between the two women. Image 12 is similar to the previous image, but the woman on the left is further away from the camera. Image 13 shows several wooden flats of strawberries lined up in a row. Image 14 shows a woman taking a flat of strawberries from a child in a knit cap . Image 15 shows two men loading and stacking flats of strawberries into the back of a box truck or semi truck. Image 16 shows one of the men loading flats of strawberries into the truck. His body is obscured behind a stack of strawberry flats. Image 17 shows a woman (Dorothy Ward) harvesting strawberries. There are many other people in the background harvesting strawberries. Image 18 is similar to the previous image, but Dorothy Ward image is looking toward the camera. Image 19 shows a man (Merv Ward, Jr.) seated at the driver's seat in a truck. A second person is standing at the open passenger side door. Next to the driver's side door is a label which reads "Custom Cab." These images were created for inclusion with an anrticle in the Lacey Leader highlighting Ward Farms. (Lacey Leader, 7/11/1973, pg. 12) Printed in alternation along one long edge of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
