Description

Buster Browns, 1975. This single black and white contact print strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show two women posing with a dog and a picture of a doll, and a man (Jerry Fox) setting up a retail shoe display. Image 15 shows two women posing for a photo. The woman on the left is holding a medium-sized, long-haired dog. The woman on the right is holding a picture of a doll mounted on a paper heart. Image 16 shows Jerry Fox attaching shoes to a display made of rope and pulleys. This man is at Jerry's Buster Browns in South Sound Center. The man's left elbow is touching the bottom edge of the image. Image 17 is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has lowered their perspective and is looking upward at the man hanging the shoes. Image 18 is similar to the previous two images, but here the man is facing more toward the camera. Image 19 shows the man looking upward with his mouth open slightly. Buster Brown was a chain of children's shoe stores. The Lacey location was called Jerry's Buster Brown and was located in South Sound Center. (Ken Balsley interview, 8/24/2017) The images of Mr. Fox were created for inclusion in an article in the Lacey Leader newspaper concerning the opening of a Buster Brown store location in South Sound Center. Mr. Fox and his wife, Sharyn, operated the store. (Lacey Leader, 2/19/1975, pg. 3)
