Description

Contest Winner, 1977. These three black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show an awards ceremony for a contest which is likely the Miss Thurston County contest. This awards ceremony appears to have taken place at Marcus Pavilion (previously referred to as the Capital Pavilion) on the Saint Martin's campus. These images also show two women at a cafeteria serving area. Image 36 shows a woman in a floral print dress posing for a photo with a man (Dick Pust) in a suit, vest and shirt with a wide collar. One other person is visible seated at a cafeteria table at the left-hand side of the image. Image 37 shows the woman in the floral dress from the previous image embracing a woman in a striped blouse. A basketball hoop is visible near the top left corner of the image. Image 38 shows a woman in a striped blouse holding a large bouquet of flowers. The left arm and a portion of the torso of the woman in the floral dress is visible at the right hand side of the image frame. A large, seated crowd is visible in the background. Image 39 shows the woman in the striped blouse speaking into a microphone. Dick Pust is holding a recorder up toward the woman's face as well. Image 40 is similar to the previous image, but here the woman in the floral dress is resting her left hand on the woman in the striped blouse's left shoulder. Image 41 shows Mr. Pust holding a recording device up to the woman in the striped blouse's face. A basketall hoop is visible at the top of the image, and a portion of the seated crowd is visible in the background. Image 42 shows the woman in the striped blouse holding the bouquet of flowers and posing for a photo. She is standing in the same spot as in the previous image. Image 43 shows the woman in the striped blouse holding the bouquet. She is facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. There is a man wearing a striped tie partially visible at the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 44 is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has backed away from the woman in the striped blouse. Here the man in the striped tie is looking toward the camera. Image 1 shows nine people gathered in a room. There is a cafeteria table in the bottom half of the image. The woman in the striped blouse appears to be speaking to Mr. Pust, who is holding the recording device. Two men to the right of the woman in the striped blouse are wearing blazers with the Capitalarian logo on the breast. A man holding a camera is at the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 2 is very similar to the previous image, but the man holding the camera is not facing towrd the camera, and the camera is not visible. Image 3 shows one woman in glasses walking past a cafeteria serving counter. She appears to be speaking to a woman who is behind the cafeteria counter. Both women are looking at each other. Image 4 is similar to the previous image, but the woman behind the counter is looking toward the camera. Image 5 is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned to the right slightly. A third person is partially visible in the background. Printed at intervals along one long edge of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
