South Sound, 1973. These five black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. Two film rolls were used in the creation of these images, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. These groups will each be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a jewelry store, jeweler and gift shop and a motorboat store. Image 36s shows three rings in a display case. Two of the rings are clear plastic boxes, and one is in a cardboard box. Image 37a shows a small carousel-style display of earrings. Image 38a shows a small horse figurine. Image 39a shows a display of three plates, one saucer, one coffee cup, and a bowl. Image 40a shows a jeweler (Greg Kluh) examining a diamond or similar stone with a loupe. He is focusing his left eye on the loupe. Image 41a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 42a is very similar to the previous image, but Mr. Kluh is focusing on the loupe with both eyes. Image 43a shows a display of approximately eight boat motors on display. Image 44a is a blurry shot of a portion of the boat motors seen in the previous image. Image 1a shows two motor boats on display. In the bottom left corner of the image is a portion of a boat motor. Text on the motor reads "FURY." Image 2a shows a very underexposed shot of the motorboat store. Image 3a shows a motorboat on display. There is a sign in the upper right quadrant of the image which reads "MERCURY OUTBOARDS." Image 4a shows the back end of the same motorboat shown in the previous image. Text on the boat's motor reads "MERCURY." Image 5a is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has lowered their perspective slightly. Image 6a shows the same scene as the previous image, but there is a man in a jacket standing at the rear of the boat. The right-hand side of this image is cut off.
The images in group "b" show a woman in a blazer posing for a portrait-style photo, a clock, a display of many women's shoes, a display of many garments, and displays of fabric and thread. Image 1b shows many garments hanging next to eachother, closet-style. There appear to be both tops and pants. Image 2b shows a display of many open-toed women's shoes. Image 3b shows a large, elaborate clock on a pole. Image 4b shows a woman in a pinstriped blazer and turtleneck sweater posing for a photo. She appears to be speaking. Her head and body are oriented slightly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 5b is very similar to the previous image, but the woman is smiling and not speaking. Image 6b is similar to the previous two images, but the woman's head and body are oriented slightly toward the left-hand side of the image frame. The woman is frowning. Image 7b is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman is smiling. Image 8b shows a display of spools of thread. This image was captured from the right-hand end of the display looking leftward. Image 9b shows the thread spool display from a straight-on view. Image 10b shows rolls of fabric mounted on a wall.
Printed in alternation along both long edges of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
