Description

South Bay Rockets, 1975. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show school children firing off model rockets and posing for photos with their model rockets. Image 12 shows a large number of school children holding model rockets. Partially visible behind the children is a pickup truck with the hood open. A child to the right of the center of the image is wearing a t-shirt which reads "STEVE" across the chest. Image 13 is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has angled the camera downward slightly. Image 14 shows a model rocket firing into the air. The rocket is approximately ten feet off of the ground. There are four adult women and several children visible in the background watching the rocket lift off. Image 15 shows the backstop of a baseball field. There is a rail fence and several tall evergreen trees visible in the background. Image 16 shows a young boy with glasses holding a long stick with wings and a tailpiece attached. Image 17 shows a model rocket lifting off. The rocket is approximately five feet off of the ground. There is a station wagon visible in the background. Image 18 shows a model rocket on a parachute. A child is running out to retrieve it. The back or side of a person's head is occupying the bottom-right corner of the image. Image 19 shows a young girl in a short-sleeved sweater posing for a photo with a very small rocket held in her left hand. Image 20 shows a young boy in a plaid, short-sleeved, button-up shirt kneeling next to a model rocket on a launch platform. He is looking toward the camera and smiling. Image 21 shows a young boy holding a small rocket in his right hand. He is wearing a button-up shirt with a very small plaid pattern on it. Image 22 shows a young boy wearing a t-shirt which reads "WALT" across the chest kneeling next to a model rocket on a launch platform. Printed in alternation along one long edge of these two film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
