Description

North Thurston Drama, 1973. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show five young women (Sharane Provencal, Nancy Harris, Sandy Peasley, Margie Chambers and Lori Hamilton) in long dresses practicing a scene of a play. The scene is taking place on a stage with music stands in the background. Most of the images also show a young man in jeans and a t-shirt who may be another actor or may be directing. Image 36 shows two young women seated in school desks. The girl on the right is wearing a plaid, short-sleeved suit. A young man is partially visible at the left-hand edge of the image. Image 37 shows (from left to right) Nancy Harris, Sharane Provencal, Sandy Peasley, Margie Chambers and Lori Hamilton in long dresses practicing a scene from a play. Sandy Pesley is seated at a folding card table with two chairs. Lori Hamilton on the far right is reaching up to touch her left shoulder. Image 38 is similar to the previous image, but here two of the young women are seated at the card table. The woman on the far right has her arms folded in front of her. Image 39 shows the young woman on the far right with both forearms held upward and parallel to her chest in an imploring gesture. This young woman's face is not visible. Image 40 shows the young woman standing at the center of the image with her arms bent at the elbows with the forearms splayed outward. She appears to be in an argument with the young woman on the far right. Image 41 shows the young woman standing at center looking toward and speaking to the two young women on the left-hand side of the image. Image 42 shows the five young women looking toward a young man on the right-hand side of the image wearing jeans and a t-shirt. The young man is pointing toward the young women with his right index finger. Image 43 is similar to the previous image, but the young man has his hands on his hips. The young women at the center of the group of five women is turned away from the camera. Image 44 is similar to the previous two images, but the young woman at the center of the group of five women has her hands folded in front of her. Image 1 shows the young woman at the center of the group gesturing toward the man with her left hand. Image 2 is similar to the previous images, but the photographer has moved closer to the card table. The tallest young woman is standing in front of the young man and has her hands on her hips. Image 3 is similar to the previous images, but the photographer has again moved closer to the card table. The young man is pointing toward his own chest with his right hand. Image 4 shows the young man with a surprised look on his face and his left hand resting on his left hip. Image 5 shows the tallest young woman gesturing with her right hand with the palm up and the fingers cupped slightly. The photographer has moved still closer to the subjects. Image 6 shows the tallest young woman with both arms out in front of her. She is pointing downward with her left index finger. Image 7 shows the tallest young woman with her left hand on her hip and her right arm hanging down at her side. The young man is only partially visible at the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 8 shows only the five young women. The young woman at the far right has her arms crossed and is looking downward. Image 9 shows the tallest young woman with her arms bent at the elbow and held out to her sides. Her palms are up. The young woman at the far right in the previous image is not in this image. The actors described above are members of the North Thurston High School Drama Club. The images show the club rehearsing for "The Neighbors," one of three one-act plays the group was putting on March 16th and 17th of 1973.
