Lacey Library, unknown date. These four black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show three small children (Christine, Paul and Karen Purcell [from left to right]) and a cat (Koyangee) posing for photos with books on a cart in the Lacey Library. The cat is on the cart with the books. Image 40 shows two of the children laughing and the child on the left looking toward the camera. The cat is looking upward toward the top left corner of the image frame. Image 41 shows the cat in the same position in the previous image. Here none of the children are laughing. Image 42 shows the cat leaning off the edge of the cart and extending their left paw below the bottom edge of the image frame. The child at the center is laughing again. Image 43 shows the child at the center leaning out over the cart to look down at the cart, which is laying down on the cart and looking toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 44 shows the cat laying down and looking upward. The children are looking toward the camera. Image 1 shows the cat getting up from laying down and looking down off the edge of the cart. The children are looking at the cat. Image 2 shows the child at center with his right hand touching the right side of his head. The cat is facing toward the camera and looking downward. Image 3 is very similar to the previous image, but the cat is not in this image. Image 4 is very similar to image 2, but the child at center is looking toward the upper left corner of the image frame. Image 5 shows the cat laying down on the cart and looking straight upward. The child at center is still touching the side of his head. Image 6 is similar to the previous image, but the cat is facing toward the camera and looking toward the left of the photographer. Image 7 is very similar to the previous image, but the cat is facing directly toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 8 shows the cat standing up on the cart and facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. The cat's head is tipped down and its tail is almost straight up in the air. Image 9 shows the cat laying down on the cart with its right paw hanging off of the side. The cat is looking toward the camera. The child at center is looking at and petting the cat. Image 10 is very similar to image 9, but the cat is looking off to the right of the camera. Image 11 is very similar to the previous two images, but here the child at center and the cat are looking just to the left of the camera. Image 12 is very similar to image 10, but the child at center has moved toward the right. Image 34 shows the cat sitting in the cart with its head oriented toward the left-hand side of the image frame. The cat is facing downward and its nose is lined up almost perfectly with the top of the center divider of the cart. Image 35 is very similar to the previous image, but here the cat is turning its head to look toward the camera. Image 36 shows the cat standing up with its back arched somewhat. The cat is looking downward. Image 37 shows the cat jumping off of the cart. The cat's head is below the bottom edge of the image frame. Image 38 shows the cat standing on the cart and looking over the side. Image 39 shows the cat sitting on the cart and looking toward the children.
These images were captured when the Lacey Library was located in Markey Square (1966-1976). Koyangee was the resident cat of the Lacey Library.Made/Created
