Description

Panorama City Quilts, 1974. These three black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show six older women posing, in two separate groups of three, with several different quilts in group photos. Image 18 shows one woman (Vera Whitehouse) standing at center, and one seated woman at each side (Cora Hopp at left, Juliet Parker at right). Spread across the laps of the two seated women is a quilt with a snowflake-like pattern. Images 19 through 24 are nearly identical to image 18. Image 25 is arranged very similarly to the previous images, but three different women are shown. The quilts shown here are also different than those seen in the previous images. The women shown here, from left to right, are Irma Pritchard, Marthena Allman and Connie Merritt. The quilt on the left has a pattern which resembles interlocking flowers, and the quilt on the right has a pattern made up of triangles and horseshoe shapes. Images 26 through 30 are nearly identical to image 25. These images were created for inclusion in an article in the Lacey Leader newspaper concerning quilts made by Panorama City residents being included in a quilting exhibit at the Washington State Capitol Museum.
