Description

Ralph Klei City Engineer, 1973. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show an older man (Ralph Klei) with a crew cut wearing a suit and tie. His shirt has a herringbone pattern on it. Image 31 shows the man with his head oriented toward the camera and his body oriented toward the right-hand side of the image frame. He is looking directly toward the camera and is not smiling. Image 32 is very similar to the previous image, but Mr. Klei's head is oriented more toward the right-hand side of the image frame. He is still looking toward the camera. Images 33 and 34 are nearly identical to image 32. Ralph Klei was the City Engineer with the City of Lacey. He was appointed by Lacey mayor Albert Van Andel on March 20, 1972 and "laid off" by the subsequent mayor, Leon Schiendelman in May of 1973. Schiedelman gave the reason for the lay off was Klei's lack of municipal experience. (Lacey Leader, 5/23/1973, pg.1 and 5) The printed labels along the edge of the film which identify its specific type are obscured by discolorations.
