Description

Unidentified People, 1978. These seven black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. Two separate rolls of film were used in the creation of these images, so some of the physical numbers printed on the edges of the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from. Both of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show people posing for portrait-style photos, and several shots of objects in an office setting. Image 13a is mostly cut off, but the remaining image shows items hanging on a wall. One of these items appears to be a map. Image 14a shows a portion of an office. A bookcase occupies the center of the image, and there is an open doorway to the right of the bookshelf. A portion of a desk and a desk chair are visible in the image foreground. Image 15a shows the left-hand side of a man's face and shoulder. Visible behind the man is a wood-paneled wall with a framed painting hanging on it. Image 18a shows a woman in a knitted sweater and a man in a wool jacket over a polo shirt posing for a photo. The man has his right arm around the woman's shoulders and both people are smiling. Image 19a is similar to the previous image, but the man does not have his arm around the woman's shoulders. Both people are laughing. Image 20a is similar to the previous image, but the woman is looking toward the man and the man appears to be speaking. Image 21a shows only the man from the previous three images. He is laughing. In this image there is also a badge on the man's right shoulder which is partially visible. The patch may be a peace sign. Image 32a shows a man with a mustache in a suit and tie posing for a portrait-style photo. His head is tipped to the right and forward very slightly. He has a serious look on his face. Images 33a through 35a are nearly identical to image 32a. Image 36a shows a man in a plaid shirt with a striped plaid tie posing for portrait-style photos. The man is smiling. Images 37a through 39a are nearly identical to image 36a. Image 40a shows a woman wearing a tiara and a cloak or robe with a clasp at the collar. Her eyes are closed and she is smiling. Image 41a is nearly identical to image 40a. Image 42a is very similar to the previous two images, but here the woman's eyes are open. Image 43a is very similar to te previous image, but here the woman is not smiling. Image 44a is nearly identical to image 42a. Image 1a is blank. The images in group "b" show a woman in front of some bushes, several blank or nearly blank images, shots of objects in an office, and a woman wearing a short-sleeved overshirt over a second short-sleeved top. Image 18b shows a woman in front of some bushes which have foliage similar to a pine tree. This woman appears to be the same woman seen in images 18a through 20a. Image 19b is nearly identical to image 18b. Image 20b is very underexposed, but appears to show a woman seated on a couch in front of curtains or a wood-paneled wall. This woman also appears to be the same woman seen in the previous two images and images 18a through 20a. There are two small spots on this image. Images 21b and 22b are effectively blank. Image 23b shows a section of a wood-paneled wall and the bottom portion of what appears to be a blueprint hanging on the wall. Printed at the bottom of this blueprint is "CIVIC PLAZA FOR LACEY WA." Image 24b shows a portion of an office with a large map hanging on the wall. Visible in the foreground is a slanted desk or podium with what appears to be three closed ledgers sitting on it. Image 25b shows the top portion of a bookcase with a fire extinguisher and three books (which appear to be Polk Directories) sitting on top of it. This is the same bookcase seen in image 14a. Image 16b shows a woman wearing a thin, short-sleeved overshirt with a floral pattern over a collared, button-up top. She is also wearing a necklace with a small pendant on it. She appears to be speaking. Image 27b is very similar to the previous image, but the woman is not speaking and has a slight smile on her face.
