Armwrestling, 1974. These four film strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. Images 1 through 10 show two women armwrestling. These images appear to have been captured during the lead-up to the Western Washington Invitational, an arm wrestling competition held in Lacey on 9/1/1974. The woman on the right is Kathy Ewing, a regional arm wrestling champion. Image 1 shows two arms with their hands clasped together on an armwrestling table with grips held by the opposite hands. Image 2 is similar to Image 1 but the cameraman has moved up a bit. Image 3 is similar to Image 2 but the photographer has moved up a bit. Image 4 is similar to Image 3 but now the photographer has zoomed out showing both women. Various awards can be seen hanging on a wall in the background. Both women are wearing no sleeve shirts. The woman on the left has shorter hair than the woman on the right. Image 5 is similar to Image 4 but both women have leaned into the armwrestling. Image 6 is similar to Image 5 but the photographer has shifted down, being level with the table. Image 7 is similar to Image 6 but the photographer has shifted down again with the underside of the table now visible. Image 8 is similar to Image 7 but the woman on the right is laughing. Image 9 is similar to Image 8 but the photographer has moved in closer and both women have leaned their heads in. Image 10 is similar to Image 9 but the woman on the right is no longer smiling while the woman on the left is.
Images 13 through 19 show an armwrestling competition at Marcus Pavilion with several different men competing one on one, two at a time, two male referees holding the table in place, and a crowd watching in them. Image 13 shows the all four men with the two competitors are armwrestling. These images show scenes from the Western Washington Invititational, an arm wrestling competition which was held in Lacey on 9/1/1974. In front of the table one competitor is on the left and the referee is on the right. In the back of the table the other competitor is on the right and the referee is on the left. Image 14 is similar to image 13 but the photographer has moved to the left. Image 15 is similar to Image 14 but there are two new competitors. Image 16 is similar to Image 15 but the competitor on the left looks to be winning or has won. Image 17 is similar to Image 16 but the competitor on the right has changed and the one on the left looks to be the same. Image 18 is similar to Image 17 but the photographer has moved out into the audience. The tournament is taking place on a raised platform in a gym with the audience seated all around. The referees are in the front and back of the table and the competitors are on either side. Image 19 is similar to Image 18 but the photographer has moved to the left. The competitors are now in the front and back of the table and the referees are on either side.
