There are four such piles on the two flat cars in the photo as well as other log piles in background (as well as some standing conifer trees and a telephone/power pole. The Tacoma Eastern Railway provided passenger service to parts of Lewis, Thurston and Pierce counties from at least 1905-1928 and also provided freight line capacity in those areas until at least 1995-7. There was a 1996-7 controversy about having its trains traverse the towns of Rainier and Yelm. Logging was a key industry in the Pacific NW for most of the 20th century.Made/Created
