Description

Lacey School 7th grade class from the 1929-1930 school year depicted in a black and white 5" x 7 " photograph with a white border. There are 50 students and one teacher pictured. The front row is comprised of ten boys, the second row eleven girls, the third row six girls and five boys. The teacher, Mr. Claude M. Manley, is standing behind the back row in between the two students at the far left. The group is pictured outside in front of the Lacey School. The students are facing forward. The first row of students is sitting on the bottom step and the remaining rows are standing on the steps. The top quarter of the image shows the architecture of the school including the brick columns and the windows and doors beyond. One of the doors is open. At the bottom left of the image is written in white: "7989." Handwritten along the top right edge in black ink is: "1929 6th." Pictured in the front row, left to right: Earl Prichard, Harry Firkins, unknown student, Ford Mullen, Willard Miller, Pershing Wright, Wesley Smith, Kenneth Mayes, Billie Ottinger, Richard Levesque. In the second row: Three unknown students, Julia Shrewberry, an unknown student, Margaret Dent, Clarice Watson, Eleanor Suslik, Esther Akers, Margaret Miller and an unknown student. In the third row: Robert Bridges, Mr. Claude M. Manley, Ernest Cheadle, Edna Wooster, Mary Iyall, Florence Ulery, Catherine Dodge, an unknown student, Eleanor Hartman, George Amans, Donald Muers, and Burton Lockhart. On the back of the photo, in the upper right corner is written in pencil: "#1631" (also in the upper left corner) and below this "1994-048" presumably by museum staff. There are many accretions of adered paper present due to this photograph having been removed from a photo album. Visible at left is a studio stamp: "Frank Perkins, Photographer, 548 North 68th St., Seattle, Wash. Order by [illegible] This [illegible]".
