Unidentified People, 1977. These 16 black and white contact photo film strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using many different film rolls, so many of the physical numbers on the strips are duplicated. For the purposes of this description, each of the strips will be grouped according to which film roll they originally came from by date. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images.
Image 44a shows eight people in a room. In the foreground, in the right of the photo, a woman is sitting in a chair with a book open in her lap. In the middle of the photo are a group of five people. A woman is pushing a wheelchair to the right with an older woman sitting in it. Another woman is laying on top of the older woman in the wheelchair. A man in a suit is holding up the legs of the woman who is laying down. A man wearing a suit, tie, and a vizor is holding onto the left arm of the woman who is laying down. In the background there are two rows of chairs. A woman is sitting behind the man with the visor. A man is sitting in the back far right of the frame. Image 1a is similar to Image 44a but the group of people in the middle of the room is gone. The woman in the foreground is still there but she does not have the book in her lap. A man wearing a striped suit is standing in the middle of the photo. He is looking in the direction of the photographer. Behind the man in the striped suit are two men sitting down on a bench. Both men are wearing suits and ties but the man on the left is wearing glasses. The woman who was sitting down behind the man in the visor is now sitting down in a chair to the left of the two men, probably crocheting. The man sitting in the back far right is gone. Image 2a is similar to 1a but two new people have entered the room. A man wearing a suit is standing next to the sitting woman. Behind him is another man wearing glasses and a striped shirt, how is walking and carrying a broom. The man sitting in the back far right is back. The man in the striped suit has moved closer to the photographer and has slightly spread his arms out. Image 3a is similar to Image 2a but the positions of the people have changed. The man carrying the broom has walked out of frame. The man in the suit has moved to the right of the frame. The woman who was pushing the wheelchair is now standing behind the woman in the chair. The two men who were sitting on the bench are now standing. The man in the striped suit has moved to the left of the frame and is facing toward the right. Everybody else is looking at him. Image 4a shows the man in the striped suit standing in the right of the frame, looking at the photographer. In front of a wooden fence gate. To the left of him is a half wall. Peering over the wall is a man wearing a hat and a flannel jacket, who is looking at the man in the striped suit. Image 5a shows a group of eight people around a table in the middle of the room. The man in the striped suit is standing at the head of the table. Standing to the right of him is the woman who was pushing the wheelchair. Sitting down at the side of the table, facing the photographer, from the left, is the woman who was laying down on the woman in the wheelchair and the woman who probably was crocheting. At the opposite end of the table is the older woman in the wheelchair. Sitting down at the opposite side of the table, facing away from the photographer, are three men. The one in the middle is wearing a shirt and the other two are wearing suits. On the table is tableware and a food item. Image 6a is similar to Image 5a but has moved the to right and the man wearing the striped suit is sitting down. Image 7a is similar to Image 6a but the photographer has moved to the left and closer in to the point where only the three men in the front, the man in the striped suit, the woman who was pushing the wheelchair, and the woman who was laying on top of the woman in the wheelchair can be seen. Image 8a is similar to Image 7a but, the man in the striped suit is standing in the middle of the frame. The woman who was pushing the wheelchair is standing to the left of him.
Image 44b shows aisle 6 in a supermarket. The shelves are stocked with products. In the middle of the aisle is a woman with a shopping cart, wearing glasses. She is talking to a man to the left of her. The man is wearing a suit and tie. Two more woman with carts are in the end of the aisle. An sign for aisle 5 is to the left of aisle 6 sign. Image 1b is similar to Image 44b but the woman with glasses is looking at the photographer. Only one woman is at the end of the aisle. Image 2a is similar to Image 1a but the photographer has moved in closer to the two people. The woman at the end of the aisle is walking away. Image 3a is similar to Image 2a but the photographer has turned his camera from portrait to landscape, showing more of the aisle. The woman with glasses and the man in the suit are looking at one another.A man in checkered pants is walking by at the end of the aisle. Image 4a is similar to Image 3a but both the woman wearing glasses and the man in the suit are smiling.
Image 4c shows a part of the front side of a wooden mobile trailer. the trailer takes up the left side of the photo. On the right side of the front of the trailer is a door. To the left of the door is a sign which reads: "Temperary Office of A-B Van & Storage, Blue Star Propane, Petrolane Gas, Smyth Van Line, Southwest Delivery is at 935 Poplar, Phone 491-7140, 491-7040." To the right of the trailer is a fuel tank with the name Petrolane on the side. In the background is a large structure. In front of that structure is a trash pile. A large pipe runs behind the structure and trailer. Image 5c is similar to Image 4c but the photographer has stepped back. The supports of the trailer can be seen in full. More of the trash pile has come into the frame. In the bottom right of the photo, a small part of a car appears. Image 6c is similar to Image 5c but the photographer has moved closer to the car and turned a bit to the left. More of the trailer now takes up the photo. Image 7c is similar to Image 6c but the photographer has stepped away from the car and panned the camera down showing more of the ground in front of the trailer. Image 8c is similar to Image 7c but the photographer has moved behind and to the left of the fuel tank. On the side of the trailer is a window.
Printed along the edge is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
Image 3d shows a man wearing a jacket, shirt, and necklace. The man is dealing cards out to two small stacks of cards that are in front of him. Attached to the necklace is a pendant with the spades card symbol on it. Image 4d shows a truck. On the bottom left of the back windshield are two signs. The one on the top reads "Coon Hunters do it All Night" with a raccoon picture in the right of the sign. The bottom sign reads "Guns Don't Kill People, People Kill People." On the bottom middle and right of the back windshield are two logos that are too small to identify. Behind the back windshield, two rifles are hanging upside down. The driver of the truck has their left arm up in the open window of the car door. In front of the truck is the back of a bus. To the left of the truck, part of a car is in the frame. Behind the truck bed, in the background is a sign attached to a building that reads "Dirty Dave's Infamous Gay 90's" pizza. Image 5d shows a room with folding tables and chairs. A display cabinet, a map, an American flag, and a projector on a countertop are in the background. There are five people sitting around tables laid in a T shape but only three can be seen in this image. In front is a man sitting down at the top of the T with his back to the photographer wearing a striped shirt. Opposite of him is a man with a mustache, wearing glasses and a shirt with a pattern on it. To his left is a man with a mustache wearing glasses and a jacket. Image 6d is similar to Image 5d but the photographer has moved left, out from behind the man in the striped shirt to. To the man in the striped shirt's right is a man wearing a shirt and tie. To his right is a man wearing a shirt, tie, and glasses. A picture of a fire truck is on the wall. Image 7d is similar to Image 6d but the photographer has moved to the left. Scattered about on the desks are mats, books, file folders, stacks of papers, an ashtray, and decks of playing cards.
Image 20e shows two boys sitting down at a table facing the photographer. The boy on the left is wearing a striped shirt and is smiling and looking at the serious looking boy on the right who is wearing glasses, a jacket, and a watch on his right hand wrist. Both of them have there arms crossed and resting on the table. On the table are two first place trophies and ribbons for winning a science fair. Behind the trophies are the two winning projects. On the left there is a device on top of a stack of three books connected by wires to another device with a cord running out of it. On the right is a device connected by wires to two "Eveready Ignitor General Purpose Dry Cell Battery, no. 6, 1.5 volts." A potted plant is in the right corner. Image 21e is similar to Image 20e but the boy on the left is looking at the photographer. Image 22e is similar to Image 21e but the photographer has moved in closer and the right trophy and ribbon have been moved closer to the left trophy and ribbon. The boy on the right has his hands at his side. Image 23e is similar to Image 22e but the boy on the right is trying to smile. Image 24e is similar to Image 23e but the boy on the right has stopped smiling.
Image 24f shows a room full of elderly men and women sitting down looking at a man in a suit standing in the middle of the room. There are also tables set up in the middle of the room with food on them. In the back of the room are several of the elderly women are dressed up like pioneers wearing bonnets and aprons. On the right side of the room is a door and windows. In the back of the room is an entryway to a kitchen. Image 25f is similar to Image 24f but the photographer has moved to the opposite end of the room, near the kitchen. The women in pioneering clothes are standing up. Image 26f is similar to Image 25f but it looks like the women standing up are playing interments. One woman is playing spoons while another one is playing the accordion. The photographer has turned toward the left a bit. Image 27f is similar to Image 26f but the photographer has turned toward the left a bit again. Image 28f is similar to Image 27f but the photographer has turned toward the right, showing the more of the audience.
Image 28g shows a rear end dragster on display in a parking lot. On the drivers side of the car is the name "B. Hill," a letter B and the number 73. The racing tires are from Goodyear. On the side of the dragster's spoiler are the names "Ricks," "Lacey," and "Exxon." Image 29g is similar to Image 28g but the photographer has moved closer to the dragster. More of the parking lot, along with parked cars, can be seen. Image 30g is similar to 29g but the photographer is standing in front of the dragster. Image 31g is similar to Image 30g but the photographer is standing directly in front of the dragster. Image 32g is similar to Image 31g but the photographer has moved back to the left side of the dragster. Image 33g is similar to Image 32g but the photographer has moved to the right a bit. Image 34g is similar to image 33g but the photographer has moved to the front left of the dragster facing the cockpit where the driver Bill Hill is sitting. Bill has a neckbeard and is wearing a baseball hat with a "Goodyear Motor Sports Club" patch and overalls with "Championship Driver," "Gulf," "International Conference of Sports Car Clubs," "Driver," "South Sound Race and Rally Bill Hill," and "NWR Sports Car Club of America." Image 35g is similar to Image 34g but the photographer is standing directly in front of the dragster. Image 36g is an image of part of the dragster but the photographer is to close to the car to identify what part of the vehicle it is. Image 37g is similar to Image 35g but Bill is looking at the front left of the dragster. Image 38g is similar to Image 37g but the photographer has moved back to the left side of the car. Bill is looking toward the photographer. Image 39g shows two woman standing to the left of a mimeograph machine. The woman in front is wearing glasses and a shirt with a pattern on it and is holding on to a stencil. The woman in the back has her left hand over the mimeograph machine. In the room is another mimeograph, a typewriter, desks, and storage closets. Image 40g is similar to Image 39g but the woman with glasses is putting the stencil into the machine. Image 41g is similar to Image 40g but the photographer has angled the camera down. The woman with glasses has moved her right hand from the stencil to the tray. Image 42g is similar to Image 41g but the woman in the back is now also working the mimeograph. Image 43g shows five people sitting around a round table. From left to right is a girl, the woman with glasses, a boy with snoopy on this shirt, the other woman with a wrist watch that can now be seen, and another boy standing up. The two woman are have books that they are showing to the kids. On the wall are paper cut outs of children flying paper cut out kites. Image 44g is similar to Image 43g but the boy who was standing up is sitting down and looking at the photographer. Image 1g shows just the girl and woman with glasses. The woman is pointing at a picture in a book with a matching descriptive word. The book is full of pictures with matching descriptive words. Image 2g is similar to Image 1g but the woman has tilted her head down slightly. Image 3g is similar to Image 44g but the woman with a wrist watch and two boys are looking in the direction of the woman with glasses and the girl. Image 4g shows just the woman with a wrist watch and the boy to her left. Both of them are looking at a book. Image 5g is similar to Image 4g but both of them have tilted there heads down to get a better view of the book's contents.
Image 29h shows the image of a storefront in a mall. The sign above the entrance reads "Coming Soon The Rusty Rivet... featuring Levi Apparel." The entrance itself is boarded up. A Levis logo is to the left of the sign. The store to the right of the Rusty Rivet is Jean's Calico (the next word is not in the image) Record Shop. Image 30h is the same and Image 29h. Image 31h shows another storefront for Knesek's in the same mall. Signs in the store read: "Moving Sale Our Entire Stock 25% Off." Image 32h is the same as Image 31h. Image 33h shows the floor of the mall and a part of two stores.
Image 30i shows several arcade cabinets on the right under a large tent at a fair. A man in a jacket is playing one of the cabinets. Three people are standing at the entrance, looking out into the fair. On the left is a man and a woman talking. In the background are rides, one of them named "Jaws of Death." It is possible that it is raining as the ground looks wet. Image 31i is similar to Image 30i but a man wearing a jacket with "Funtastic Traveling Shows" on the back of it is standing with the man and woman. Image 32i is the same as Image 31i. Image 33i shows a woman standing in a carnival game booth where a person would pay too try to knock down a pyramid by throwing a ball at it. More booths are to the left and the right. A barrel sits out in front of the booth.
Image 31j shows a person on a dirt bike. The number 109 is on the front of the bike as well as the riders helmet. The rider appears to be practicing in a barren area. The rider has his left leg out to keep the bike upright as he is doing a tight turn. There is a fence and trees in the background. Image 32j is similar to 31j but the rider is riding the bike between two buildings with metal sidings. Image 33j is similar to Image 32j but the rider is back out in the barren area doing the same thing as in Image 31j. Image 34j is similar to Image 33j but the rider is doing the same thing except he is turning past some shrubs.
Printed along the edge is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM." Printed along the just the edge of slides 20e-24e, 29h-33h, and 1k-5k are the numbers 6 3 and 2 5 9.Made/Created
