Description

Lacey School boys' baseball team from the 1929-1930 school year depicted in a black and white 5" x 7 " photograph with an uneven white border. There are 13 students and one teacher (coach) pictured. The front row is comprised of seven boys and the back row six boys and the teacher/coach. Ten of the boys are dressed in baseball uniforms, light colored with vertical pinstripes and the word "Lacey" emblazoned on the front, and striped knee socks. Six of the boys are holding baseball gloves. Three of the students are wearing regular clothes. The teacher, Mr. Willard G. Miller, is wearing a dark suit, including vest, tie and jacket. The group is pictured outside on the side of the Lacey School. The students are facing forward. The boys are all standing; the row in back, including the coach, is standing on a bench. In front of the group is an aesthetic arrangement of baseball equipment, including a baseball in a baseball glove, a catcher's mask and four baseball bats. At the bottom left of the image is written in white: "8031". Handwritten along the top edge in black ink is: "7th." This likely refers to the grade that Ford Mullen was in. Pictured in the front row, left to right: Billie Ottinger, Eugene Akers, George Amans, Kunick Nelson, Donald Muers, Ford Mullen, and Dick Levesque. In the second row: Richard Hicks, Bobby Jackson, Lewis Hartman, Earnest Cheadle, Mr. Willard G. Miller, Cyrus Dimmick and Willard Miller, Jr. On the back of the photo, in the upper right is written in pencil: "#1633" and below this "1994-048" and the year "1930" below this, presumably by museum staff. There are many accretions of adhered paper present due to this photograph having been removed from a photo album. At right, oriented vertically is the photographer's stamp: "Frank Perkins, Photographer, 548 North 68th St., Seattle, Wash. Order by Number on face of picture, This size 25¢ - Mounted 40¢".
