Description

Lacey School boys' baseball team from the 1930-1931 school year depicted in a black and white 5" x 7 " photograph with an uneven white border. There are 10 students and one teacher (coach) pictured. The front row is comprised of four boys and the teacher/coach and the back row six boys. Seven of the boys are dressed in baseball uniforms, light colored with vertical pinstripes and the word "Lacey" emblazoned on the front. Two of the students are wearing regular clothes. The teacher, Mr. Claude M. Manley, is wearing a dark suit, including vest, tie and jacket. The group is pictured on the front steps of the Lacey School. The students are facing forward. In front of the group is a catcher's mask and s baseball bat. At the bottom left of the image is written in white: "9413". Handwritten along the top edge in black ink is: "8th." This likely refers to the grade that Ford Mullen was in. Pictured in the front row, left to right: Willard Miller, Jr., Earl Prichard, Dick Levesque, Ford Mullen, Mr. Claude M. Manley. In the back row: Cyrus Dimmick, Billie Ottinger, Ernest Cheadle, George Amans, Emil Zindt, and Harry Firkins. On the back of the photo, in the upper right is written in pencil: "#1634" and below this "1994-048" and the year "1931" below this, presumably by museum staff. There are many accretions of adhered paper present due to this photograph having been removed from a photo album. At left, oriented vertically is the photographer's stamp, partially obscured by the paper stuck on the back: "[F]rank Perkins, Photographer, 548 N[orth 6]8th St., Seattle, Was[h. Ord]er b[y Num]ber on face of pictu[re], This [size] 25¢ - Mounted 40¢". There are also numerous signatures handwritten on the back: Earl Prichard, Fred Mullen, Willard Miller, Richard Levesque, [two illegible], [Emi]l Zindt, [Billie O]ttin[ger], [George] Amans, [C. M.] Manley, [Cyrus] Dimmick, [?] insella, [?]itor, and [Harry] Firkins
