Description

Black and white photo of the rotunda in the Washington State Capitol building. Three levels are visible. Starting at the bottom of the image, there is a marble floor with a bronze replica of the state seal embedded in the floor. There are posts holding velvet ropes around the seal. In the middle ground are marble columns and an ante room with glass exterior doors in the background. Moving up the image to the second level, there is a balcony in lighter colored stone with a clock mounted on it. Above that is a stone railing and behind that are more columns and various booths and desks. People are visible both walking and sitting. At the top of the image is a metal (probably bronze) ornamental strip and a metal railing. Behind the railing is a marble wall and doorway. A man is walking across this level. There are two chandeliers visible, one on the ground floor and one on the second level. There is a white border on all sides. On the back is a pasted-on paper that has typed on it "Inside the Rotunda at the Washington State Capital. Washington State Travel Photo". A stamp in blue ink says " Cowley Photos Industrial - Commercial - Studio 1005 Capitol Way Olympia, Wash. Bus. 352-4283 Res. 352-9182". A stamp in black ink says "Please Credit Washington State Department of Commerce and Economic Development General Administration Bldg. Olympia, Washington 98501". In blue felt pen is "65%" and "F" in a circle. In green felt pen is a circle around the "65%" and the word "OK". In pencil is "14". This image was probably published in the Lacey Leader newspaper.
