Description

Lacey School 4th grade class from the 1929-1930 school year depicted in a black and white (brown-toned) 5" x 7 " photograph with a white border. There are 45 students and one teacher pictured. The front row is comprised of eleven boys, the second row ten boys, the third row thirteen girls, the fourth row two boys, nine girls and the teacher. The teacher, Mrs. Frances Huwald, is standing in the back row, fifth from the right. The group is pictured outside on the front steps of the Lacey School in front of two brick columns and the double doors behind. The doors appear ajar. The students are facing forward. The first row of students is sitting on the bottom step, many with legs crossed. The second row is sitting on the next step up. The remaining rows are standing on the steps behind them. At the bottom left of the image is written in white: "7986". Pictured in the front row, left to right: Johnny Wilson, unknown student, Paul Miller, Bob Watkins, Leslie Ray, Gordon "Snap" Foy, Jimmy Schirmer, unknown student, Joey Palm, Cecil Cunningham, and Claude Huntamer. On the back of the photo, in the upper right corner is written in pencil: "#284, 610, 707 & 1486" and below this "Lacey School 4th grade 1929-1930" presumably by museum staff. On left edge, oriented vertically is the photographer's stamp: "Frank Perkins, Photographer, 548 North 68th St., Seattle, Wash.. Order by Number on face of picture This size 25¢ - Mounted 40¢" and next to this in blue pen is "Ollie Van Slyke."
