Description

Weyerhaeuser, 1973. These nine black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using four separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, each of these film strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each of these groups will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show a meeting and/or an awards ceremony at a Weyerhaeuser facility or office. Image 9a shows a group of approximately fifty people seated a tables in a meeting room with tall windows at the far side. The group is composed mostly of men. Image 10a is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 11a is very similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has panned to their left. Image 12a is similar to images 9a and 10a, but the photographer has moved toward their left. A cart with several documents laid out on it is partially visible in the bottom, right-hand corner of the image frame. Image 13a is similar to the previous images, but here a woman with her hair tied in a ribbon is visible at the left-hand side of the image frame. Image 14a is similar to the previous images, but here the photographer has panned farther to the right and a man in a suit is visible standing in front of the gathered people. Image 15a shows the same gathering as seen in the previous images, but this image was captured from the back end of the room near the large windows. Image 16a shows a group of approximately eight people gathered around a cart or table at the front of the room. Image 17a shows a group of approximately eight people gathered around the cart or table, but here the photographer has moved to their left. Image 18a shows a man with a beard wearing a jacket and facing toward the camera for a photo. Image 19a shows two people in Weyerhaeuser jackets presenting a plaque to a man in a suit. A large poster titled "SAFETY RECORD" is visible on the wall behind these three people. This image is oriented horizontally. Image 20a is very similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned upward slightly. Image 21a is very similar to the previous two images, but this image is oriented vertically. Image 22a shows four men speaking in an office setting. A thermos and two ash trays are visible on a table in the foreground. Image 23a shows the same four men speaking from the previous image. A bulletin board which reads "PLYWOOD CREDIT UNION" is visible in the background. Image 24a again shows the four men talking. Visible near the left-hand edge of the image frame is a sign which reads "SAFETY'S BEST BET." Image 25a shows a girl wearing a sombrero and a knit, loose-fitting sweater or poncho.
