Description

Trojan Nuclear Power Plant, 1976. These two black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a nuclear power plant with a single cooling tower operating on the banks of a large river. Image 17 shows the reactor in the distance, just to the right of the center of the image. A large deciduous tree is near the left-hand side of the image frame, and two smaller deciduous trees are to the left of this large tree. Image 18 is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned downward and the left slightly. Image 19 is similar to the previous image, but here the photographer has panned upward and to the right. The cooling tower is now just to the left of the center of the image. Image 20 shows the cooling tower nearly perfectly centered in the image, both horizontally and vertically. Image 21 shows the cooling tower just to the left of center of the image. Image 30 still shows the cooling tower, but the photographer has moved closer to or zoomed in on the tower. The tower is in the left-hand half of the image. Image 31 is similar to the previous image, but the photographer has panned toward the left slightly. Image 32 is very similar to image 30, but here the photogrpaher has panned upward slightly. Image 33 is similar to the previous three images, but here the image is oriented vertically. Image 34 is similar to the previous image, but an area of riverbank is visible in the foreground. A man in a coat is standing on the riverbank. The Trojan Nuclear Power Plant was located southwest of Rainier, Oregon. The plant went online in 1976 and was shut down in 1992 after an accident.
