Description

Rose Bush Sale, 1976. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show three older women preparing to plant a rose bush next to an outer wall of Lacey's Sacred Heart Church. Image 44 shows the woman at left standing and looking down toward the hole intended for the rose bush. The two other women are in the process of kneeling down at the hole. The woman at center is holding a pair of lopper-style pruners. Visible on the building behind the women is a plaque which reads "1966 SACRED HEART CHURCH." Image 1 shows the woman at left looking over and gesturing with her right hand in the general direction of the camera. Image 2 shows the woman holding the pruners looking toward the camera and laughing. Image 3 shows the woman at left pointing toward the hole. She and the woman at center are looking toward the hole, and the woman at center is preparing to use the pruners to cut one of the shoots of the rose bush. Image 4 is very similar to the previous image, but the woman at left is leaning forward more. She now appears to be pointing toward the rose bush. Image 5 shows the woman at left standing upright and no longer pointing. All three women appear to be laughing. Sacred Heart Church is located at 812 Bowker St. SE in Lacey, Washington.
