Description

People, unknown dates. These fourteen black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using multiple separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, the strips will be grouped according to the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. The images in group "a" show four men standing in front of a wall bearing slats with the names of various local organizations, and two women holding up pieces of floral/rural scene embroidery art. Image 14a shows the four men (from left to right: William Bush, an unknown man, Bob Jensen, and a second unknown man) standing in front of a a wall approximately 6' in height. Attached to the wall are many wooden slats bearing the names of local community organizations. The three slats nearest to the camera bear the names of the Olympia Jaycees, the Moose Lodge and Tumwater Rotary. The man on the far right is using a screwdriver to either secure or remove the Olympia Jaycees' slat. Images 15a through 17a are nearly identical to image 15a. Image 18a shows two women, each of whom are holding up a piece of embroidery art showing floral/rural scenes. The woman at left is the shorter of the two, the woman at right is the taller. The taller woman is looking downward and slightly to her left. Image 19a is very similar to the previous image, but here the taller woman is looking downward and to her right slightly. She is also smiling or laughing. Image 20a shows the taller woman with her head oriented downward less than in the previous images. Her eyes are nearly closed. Image 21a shows the taller woman looking directly at the camera and smiling. Image 22a shows the women still holding the pieces of art, but they have switched sides. Here the taller woman is at left and the shorter woman at right. Both women are looking directly at the camera, and the camera is directly in front of the two women Image 23a is nearly identical to image 22a. Image 24a is similar to the previous two images, but here the photographer has moved to their right by several feet. Both women are still looking directly at the camera. Image 25a shows a close-up of one of the two pieces of embroidery art. The images in group "b" show a man (J.R. Hudson) in a camera store which appears to be the South Sound Center location of Cameras Et Cetera, a car in a parking lot, and a young person in a sweater and a man in a suit and tie holding tree seedlings.
