Description

South Bay Festival, 1976. This single black and white film negative strip was created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show seven children posing for photos. At least three of the children appear to be wearing Cub Scout or Boy Scout uniforms. Three of the remaining children are behind cardboard cutouts with only their faces showing. One of the children is standing behind the gap between two of the cutouts and is only partially visible. These images were captured in a gymnasium, likely at South Bay Elementary. Image 41 shows the children posing for a photo. Two of the children in scout uniforms are at the far left, the other is at the far right. Three children in the center are behind cardboard cutouts of, from left to right: a large person with an S on their chest, a person in a winter coat with a hood, and a garbage can. One additional child is standing behind and between the cutout of the person in the coat and the garbage can. Image 42 is nearly identical to image 41. Image 43 is similar to the previous two images, but here the child on the far left is kneeling down and the child previously standing behind and between the two cutouts has moved to the far right and is also kneeling. Image 44 is nearly identical to image 43. These images are related to South Bay Elementary's fall festival. Ken Balsley stated that the festival was quite large and included a carnival. (Ken Balsley interview, 9/22/2017) Printed in alternation along the bottom edge of this film negative strip is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."
