Nationwide Cablevision, 1978. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show two men standing near what appears to be a satellite dish pointing directly upward, and shots of a building with a satellite dish on top of it. Image 2 shows a man in glasses standing with his hands on his hips and looking over his right shoulder. To the right of the man is a satellite dish pointing upward. Behind the satellite dish is a single-storey building. Image 3 is similar to the previous image, but here a second man wearing a striped, button-up shirt is speaking to the man in glasses. Image 4 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man in glasses is looking in the direction of the camera. Image 5 is nearly identical to image 3. Image 14 shows a single-storey building with a satellite dish on top. The building has a sign which reads "NATIONWIDE CABLEVISION." There is a pickup truck parked near the left-hand edge of the image. Images 15 through 17 are nearly identical to image 14. Image 18 shows the building from the same angle seen in images 2-5, but here the satellite dish is on top of the building. Two men are visible working near the left-hand edge of the image.
Ken Balsley stated that Nationwide Cablevision was definitely the first cable company in Lacey, and possibly the first in all of Thurston County. As of September of 2017, the company was known as ReachOne. (Ken Balsley interview, 9/22/2017)
Printed at intervals along one long edge of both of these film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."Made/Created
