Lake Fair Parade and Track Meet, 1976. These five black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show a track meet, people in costumes, a procession of people in formal wear, and a parade. Image 5 shows a wide shot of an athletics field. Many spectators are seated in the stands in the background, and the stands are flanked by two light poles. Image 5 shows this scene with the nearest person to the camera walking away from the camera near the left-hand edge of the image. This person is wearing a flat-topped, brimmed hat and has a jacket hanging over their shoulder. Image 6 is very similar to image 5, but here the person with the jacket over their shoulder is further away from the camera. They are looking to their left toward a young person in striped socks who just ran by. Image 7 shows the same athletics field as seen in the previous images, but the photographer has moved approximately forty feet closer to the stands. Visible near the center of the image is a child in shorts running toward the right-hand edge of the image. Image 8 is very similar to the previous image, but the running child is not readily visible in the image. Image 9 shows the child from image 7 also running, but here the photographer is much closer to the child. Image 12 shows a person in striped pajamas and a matching pointed hat holding a large bag in their left hand and handing a small object to a hand reaching in from outside of the frame. Image 13 shows a long line of people dressed in formal wear walking in pairs down a dock or wooden bridge. These people may be Miss Thurston County pageant contestants matched with members of a local community group, likely the Capitalarians. Image 14 shows five men dressed in frontier-style costumes standing in line and posing for a photo. The Washington State Capitol building is visible in the background. Image 17 shows a clown in a plaid jumpsuit holding balloons. The clown appears to be giving one of the balloons to one of two children standing in front of them. A person wearing a shirt with "41" on the back is occupying the left-hand 1/3 of the image. Image 18 shows two parade floats in the Lake Fair parade. The float on the left is a replica of the Washington State Capitol building. The float on the right is made up of a folding screen with images of individual buildings on each of the screen's panels. Image 19 is very similar to the previous image, but here a woman riding the capitol building float is waving toward the camera. Image 20 shows a float which resembles a large pile of leaves or flower petals which form a throne. A young woman in a tiara is seated in the "throne." Image 21 shows a float meant to resemble a locomotive and two train cars. The left-hand trin car reads "SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON FAIR CHEHALIS CENTRALIA." Image 37 shows two young women carrying a banner which reads "LACEY MAD FESTIVAL" in the parade. Further toward the left is a group of young women in plaid outfits following in the parade. Image 38 shows the group of young women in plaid outfits in the parade. All of the young women have their hands on their hips. Image 39 shows the float which appears to be made of a large pile of leaves or flowers which form into a throne. An arrow is visible on the road near the left-hand edge of the image. Image 40 is very similar to the previous image, but here the float has advanced down the street farther. A tall lightpole or flagpole is visible near the right-hand edge of the image. Image 41 is similar to the previous image, but here some traffic lights are visible near the right-hand edge of the image. Image 42 shows a person dressed as a clown with a cape walking in the parade, from left to right. They are looking in the general direction of the camera, and many spectators are visible in the background.
Printed in alternation along the bottom edge of all of these strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM."Made/Created
