Contemporary artist Ernest Haas was best known for his renditions of historical moments in the Champlain Valley. This one captures the moment when our archaeologists visited the Spitfire site with a remotely operated vehicle in 1997, confirming that the gunboat-shaped image found during that summer’s sonar survey was, in fact, the last gunboat from the Patriot fleet.
