Status: Record Updated Street Address: 2200 Mentor Avenue City: Painesville Current Owner: James Olds LCHS ID #: 19 Year Built: 1821 Builder: Jonathan Goldsmith Architectural Style: Adam Architect: Jonathan Goldsmith Applicant Name: Broadlawan Nursing Home Description and Notes: Jonathan Goldsmith built the house his sister and brother in law, Caroline and James Old, the tavern was called the James Old Tavern. The tavern didn't have much luck, this is thought to be due to Rider's Tavern down the road. The house was later purchased by William Heisley, one of Lake County's earliest suburnanites. The house again became an inn, this time named the Broadlawn Inn and then three years later it became a rest home for the elderly. The house has since been torn down for modern development, but is currently a vacant lot. The five bay two and a half story cross gable house is a mixture of Adam style and Queen Anne. The Adam style is present in the first two floors. The first floor has a central French door and elongated windows. The second story has windows with simple lintels and sills. Decoration of the windows and doors remains simple. The wrap around porch with slightly tapered Doric columns is Stick-style element. The roof is also in the Stick-style with the cross gable and decorative spindlework in the gables. The gables each have a single two over two window. The building lost its origianl proportions when a new roof was added in 1883. At that time it was "Victorianized" in the Stick-style elements.
